| by michael schulz hey - this guy is not handsome! this guy was the archie bunker of the 1980's-90's in a tv sit-com that i swore i would never watch, nor like - and here we are today talking about a consummate actor by the name of ed o'neill. once i found myself one evening with nothing on the tube that i wasn't familiar with or bored with - and i broke my code and clicked on to MARRIED ... WITH CHILDREN - and i liked it - i was "clicked" into it - the writing was far superior to most sit-coms (almost an insult to call it a sit-com because it was such a breath-takingly breath of fresh air in that genre and absolute scream of a parody) - but along with the writing came the cast - and even though there was lust for the daughter, empathy for the wife, and sympathy for the son (who did an excellent job in the last episode before the season finale of THE X-FILES) -- the eyes/ears/smells & all basic sensibilities were on AL BUNDY - the proverbial wild & crazy guy - played by ed o'neill, who has slipped through a lot of non-observing cracks in the industry. i have caught him on MIAMI VICE and a bunch of fine small budget movies and most recently in BIG APPLE which was tragically cancelled after only 5 [that's right, i said 5!!!] episodes. the show had a great cast and was uniquely different from your basic cop show - too progressive for the tv monsters who sit atop corporate levels and dictate what is good and what is bad, when they can't even decide what brand of toothpaste to use in order to wash the tasteless void from their mouths in order to justify their huge salaries for doing inept and criminally insulting choices for the public which they disregard as people with intelligence but only regard as mindless pawns in the game of RATINGS. let's hope for a more positive tomorow for the new joe friday of DRAGNET sunday nite - february 2nd - mark it on your calendar!
