Clive Derailed (Mon Jan 30, 2006 11:25am ET)report post
by Movie Lover
Well, I saw DERAILED a couple of days ago and-wow!-for luck of a better word. Just when I thought Clive couldn't do any better, he has! He was un-be-lie-va-ble! The baddie in the movie is yet another favourite of mine,Vincent Cassell, who is really menacing but Clive...He spends the first part of the film on his knees, beaten up and begging for his life (that was weird to watch) but the second half mr. Cool we all know and love steps in and takes matters in his own hands-literally.It was money well spent and great fun.I recommend it to all.

THE ECHO (Tue Dec 13, 2005 12:10pm ET)report post
by PAULA BUSSER
DOES ANYONE IN BRITAIN KNOW OF A PLACE WHERE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO ORDER [ONLINE] THE DVD OF "THE ECHO", STARRING CLIVE OWEN & JOELY RICHARDSON?

I WAS ABLE TO FIND A BOX SET OF FIVE MINETTE WALTERS STORIES MADE INTO MOVIES, BUT I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN "THE ECHO".

I TOO AM A GREAT ADMIRER OF MR. OWEN'S WORK AND HAVE MOST OF HIS PERFORMANCES ON DVD. THIS WOULD GO A LONG WAY TO GETTING MY COLLECTION COMPLETED.

THANK FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE, AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Clive to star in You Are Here (Fri May 6, 2005 7:21am ET)report post
by Marlow
I read that a Brit company will be making a film of the book 'You Are Here' ( by Steve Horsfall), this summer. A fab book and the rumour was that Clive Owen was to play Dave Holliman. Please say it is true - he'd be spot on.

i just saw clive owen in closer, and he is an amazing actor! i've also seen him in king arthur, croupier, and gosford park. his performances, no matter what role he's in, are all very strong. i think ps is right - stage training makes a huge difference. i think clive takes the 'less is more' approach, but still very successfully manages to convey emotion and vulnerability across to an audience.

and thanks to movie lover for listing out his other acting projects! now i know where to look for him! thanks!

TO PS (Thu Dec 2, 2004 3:49am ET)report post

About that kmc person...I understand how you feel. Bear in mind that a person who has such a poor grasp of their language, has an even poorer one of the Arts Whoever it is, they're clearly imisguided. I know I should ignore them but they're very offensive so I had no choice but to post another comment.
"Close My Eyes" is amazing! The story, the direction, the performances.Especially Clive's, who goes from this carefree, happy-go-lucky guy to this devasted, desperate person, who's addicted to a woman he can't and mustn't have.
It came out on DVD last summer and special features include interviews of the director and the actors, taken in 2003. It's a must for Clive Owen fans.

LOL....true that! just ignore them. kid probably doesn't know any better!

i have a harder time finding some of owen's work on this side of the pond. i know he's in close my eyes, i'll sleep when i'm dead, and a few others. but it's just harder to get ahold of them here. he's slowly becoming more well known, gone from having small parts in the bourne identity 2 years ago to having leading roles in closer and king arthur. very talented.

seems a lot of talent is over in the UK...colin firth, jude law, kate winslet, emma thompson etc..i personally think their performances are quite strong as compared to american actors as they are trained for the stage and have a stronger sense of drama and emotion, whereas american actors don't have that. don't get me wrong, i like some of the hollywood types too, just not the overly commercialized ones.

if you, or anyone else on this forum, could tell me when some of owen's (earlier) works were released in the UK, it would make it easier for me to figure out when or if it has been released in the US. generally, movies that come out abroad come year about 8-12 months later. i know bend it like beckham as out in the UK in 02, then here in 03, so i knew to look for it....

Dear ps, hi!
I wrote this really long reply to your note ,including information about Clive's work on dvd, but they deleted my entry. I don't think there is a place you can actually say what you think ( without being offensive) and not be sencored.
I'm digusted!

And isn't strange how everything goes back to normal if you protest a bit?

Dear ps,hi!
Sorry to have disappeared on you like that, but I was away from home on a short holiday and didn't have access to a pc.
I totally agree with you that it's stage training that makes all the difference with british actors and, you know, drama schools over here can be very, very tough. You see, they actually look for ACTING ABILITIES first and foremost and not external beauty. That's always welcome, of course, but it has more to do with becoming a "star" rather than an actor. It's got to do with audience appreciation really, rather than getting you employed as an actor, at least over here.
Now, for the list you asked for:
a) Clive's work out on DVD:
CHANCER seasons 1&2 box set
CLOSE MY EYES
RICH MAN'S WIFE ( an american thriller starring Halle Berry-not worth having really)
THE RETURN OF THE NATIVE
BENT (astonishing piece of work on Clive's part)
CROUPIER
SECOND SIGHT 1&2
GREENFINGERS
GOSFORD PARK
BEYOND BORDERS
I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD
KING ARTHUR (if you get that better go for the director's cut)
b) Clive's work out on VHS:
VROOM
CENTURY
AN EVENING WITH GARRY LINEKER
THE TURNAROUND (it was so good, they made it into a TV serial known as "Sharman' with Clive in the title role.)
THE ECHO
I hope that was helpful. You're absolutely right, you know, there's so much talent here and they're always trying to make it across the pond but it's very, very hard because that is Pittland and no way can you play in the same sandbox as the Blond One.
Talk again, soon? I'd like that.
Take care.

wow, thanks! very cool, will definitely have to check some of these out. bit harder to find them here, but at least now i know what to look for.

also watched 'closer' recently. not sure if that's out in the UK yet, but has gotten good reviews here. owen was incredible, comedic, sad, spiteful, detached, all in the same role! his performance, along with the other actors, was very good. was also impressed with law and portman performances.

another good flick....finding neverland - awesome!!

Delectable (Thu Sep 30, 2004 7:57am ET)report post
by Clive's Greatest Fan
I look at Clive and I don't go:"Ooh! He's the best actor to come out of Britain!" Actually, I appreciate his acting ,I've seen all his films and I tottally subscribe to his "less is more" acting method but all I think about is that he's so sexy, I could just eat him right up! I'm not kidding: Jude Law may be considered the most handsome and Ewan McGregor rough and edgy, but Clive is the epitome of cool.He can get you all hot and bothered without so much as batting an eyelash. Absolutely delectable!

Cool, detached, knowing full well what effect he has on women and does he care? No, because that's what cool men do: nothing! He just stares deeply into you and you get all wobbly....and wet.

Amazing Clive (Wed Sep 15, 2004 9:59am ET)report post
by Aphrodite
I think Clive Owen is one of Britain's greatest actors, I like the way he understates everything and gives a minimal, yet compelling performance, deeply moving and strong. His characters are so in control on the outside but in constant turmoil on the inside and you can only tell if you look into those fierce green eyesof his. I love the way he plays everything but my favourite characters are Jack Manfred in Croupier and detective Tanner in Second Sight. I really would love to see him perform on the stage but I guess now he's on his way to superstardom he's not very likely to do that again. I truly envy the people who had the chance to see him play in Closer; now I'll have to settle for the film version and have to put up with that awful, talentless Julia Roberts cast opposite a fine actor such as Clive! He's wonderful and I think his best work is yet to be seen.
