Sherman Hemsley
Sherman Hemsley has starred in four television series continuously since 1973 when he first appeared as George Jefferson on All in the Family for Norman Lear. His character was later spun off into the hugely successful The Jeffersons, which ran 11 seasons beginning in 1975, establishing Hemsley as one of the most popular television stars of all time. His other television series include Amen (1986-91) and the recent Goode Behavior.
Hemsley has also has starred notably in legitimate theater and as a nightclub performer. On Broadway he starred in Purlie Victorious and later toured with Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope.
