In 1955 Los Angeles, I took several college classes with Mr. French, then known as "Eddie French" to his classmates. He had a "take charge" personality, was a serious character actor, seemed older than his years, and gave you the impression that he would surely succeed as an actor on stage, screen and TV. I was not surprised to see that he did. I was saddened when I heard he had died of lung cancer, but not surprised, because he was a heavy smoker even then. I believe that he still had his greatest acting roles ahead of him.
