Anna Friel showed interest in acting from an early age, but instead of pursuing the traditional route of drama school training, she moved to London where she soon caught the attention of casting directors and agents alike. She became a household name there after landing a role in the popular soap Brookside. Friel also starred in several diverse television productions including the political thriller Fields of Gold, the suspenseful The Tribe and the delightful, bittersweet drama Watermelon.

Since leaving the soap, her career on stage and in film has gone from strength to strength. On stage, Friel wooed Broadway in Closer, for which she won the coveted Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. She went on to rivet audiences both in London and Washington, D.C., with her electrifying performance in Lulu.

In film, Friel has shown her remarkable talent in a diverse selection of movies, including The Land Girls and The War Bride, starring as a 1940s' heroine; Rogue Trader, playing opposite Ewan McGregor; A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kevin Kline; Barry Levinson's An Everlasting Piece and the critically acclaimed Me Without You.
