I don't know whether Mr. Lindo reads his fan mail, and I'm not in the habit of writing fan mail to anyone, but after 7 years, I was just thinking about "Cider House Rules" again and that Delroy Lindo acted his heart out and produced one of the most underrated performances in film history.

Mr. Lindo should have gotten at least an academy award nomination for best supporting actor for "Mr. Rose". Instead, he got nothing - a complete travesty. Though I'm not black or white or know Mr. Lindo in any way, I think the reason for that was that he played a powerful black man in a "white" film. He played Rose like a combo Othello/Lear - powerful, noble, deeply flawed, tragic. Managing a resonance like that while hunkered in a setting of deep, southern poverty is an even more amazing feat. Caine did an excellent job too. However, frankly, MacGuire had all the publicity but zero actual weight. Mr. Lindo stole every scene he was in and otherwise carried the movie.

Mr. Lindo, I just want you know that there are people like myself out there who recognize a quality performance and aren't fooled by ad campaigns or hype. You did an amazing, oscar level job in that film, and there are people around who appreciate it to this day and will continue to appreciate your work. Your performance deserves a place in film history.

I was proud to see him become an actor, although I knew him before he told me that he was going to be an actor. He is a wonderful person and a great actor. He lived in Philadelphia where I use to reside. Please forward to him, that he may possibly respond back himself. The lady that we both knew her name was Mary.

I knew itwas him. Just read his screen biography which confirmed that he is the same Delroy that I used to play soccer with in Eltham, England, for a team called Penhill Standard. Wow has he come a long way since the early 1960's. If you actually read this Delroy I would be pleased to give you info on your old team-mates.
