by Duane Wood In the late 1980's I had the good fortune to ride the steam train from Durango to Silverton with Ben and Harry Carry Jr. What a jewel of a dude. He was so accomodating and got such a charge out of my 8 year old boy who could name his movies. At 70 he was very robust and had "mops" for hands. Nifty guy, for sure. Comment on this...

by jay riley if you knew ben, you will never forget him..a prince of a man...met him the first time in archer city, texas..he was "sam the lion"...in the seventies, was fortunate enough to work with him on some beef promotional efforts, there will never be another ben.. a mans man...but granny, i never had the nerve to call him francis...to ben, a star was something that twinkled in the sky, a true loss to everyone, but a dire loss to the real cowboys who knew him Comment on this...

by Skip Darwin Ben Johnson was not a steer roper. He was number one Team Roper in l953 in the finals for Rodeo Cowboys of America (RCA) That organization was originally called "The Turtles" and is now called Professional Rodeo Cowboys of America. I met him when he helped Casey Tibbs put on a roping clinic in Ramona, Calif in the mid 70.s. He was a dear man who posed for pictures with me, girls friends and all our kids. Casey was a good guy, full of laughs and mischief. He and Ben were old friends. It was quite a day! Comment on this...
