The singer has long been a supporter of VH1's Save the Music program, which works to keep music in public schools. The recent Divas CD, Estefan's collaboration with Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin, was recorded at a 1998 concert that benefited the Save the Music program.
Estefan reached superstar status in 1985 with Miami Sound Machine and enjoyed more than a decade of hits with the band. As she segued into a solo recording career, she achieved major mainstream success around the world. She won a 1996 Grammy Award for her album Abriendo Puertas and a 1994 Grammy for the album Mi Tierra. Estefan has also received two Cable ACE Awards, an MW Video Music Award, the Hispanic Heritage Award and the Congressional Medal of Honor, among countless other accolades.
