no one like "Spencer" (Wed Aug 1, 2007 12:52am ET)report post

They don't make actors like Tracy, Gable, etc any more. I don't even go to the movies now, I only watch films on TCM. I saw "A Man Named Joe", tonight on TCM, I was totally blown away, his character was everything - angry, pushy, jealous and very tender and kind. It was Van Johnson's first major role, like my title says, there is no one like him, God Be With You, Spencer. Mare

Spencer Tracy was one of the greatest actors to ever hit Hollywood. He made so many inspirational films including "Captain's Courageous", "Boy's Town" & "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner." I love his speech at the end of that film. It brings a tear to your eye. No one will ever see the likes of this great man

we have lost in him the golden man. A man who had never
acting lesson in his real life. Being a devoted catholic he kept the wedlock with Louise. He is to be praised for his
simplicity and integrity.

I guess I'm not surprised I'm the first to post. Tracy's not exactly a hot item these days but I have loved the man from the first time I saw one of his old movies on TV when I was just 14. It was "Whipsaw". I am "old" enough to have loved him when he was still alive!
The movie world will never see the likes of him again! 'Til today I cannot watch "Captain's Courageous" because he dies in that film. I don't think there is a better actor than him -- living or dead. His mannerisms and facial expressions conveyed his character perfectly and that wonderful voice!
When I was 19 I wrote to him every month for about a year. (That's how bad I had it for him!) Of course, he never wrote back Sad, but I never knew how sick he was at the time. I always hoped he got a kick out of my letters -- they were sooo adolescent! But, maybe, at least I had a chance to express my love and admiration for him and his work.
The world is richer because of his films and today's actors would do well to study his acting techniques. His characters were made much more real due to the smallest details of his interpretations.
I guess I still love him, "do ya think?"

Thanks for allowing me to tell the world! Monica
