The only thing missing from Express (Sun Jan 2, 2005 6:34pm ET)report post
by Erik Schlichtmann
Although it is a masterfully done piece of filmmaking, there is only one thing that is absent in The Polar Express. There is no light in the eyes of the Conductor, The Hobo, The Little Boys or Girls, and especially in Mr. C. Actually, in no one's eyes. It is probably the only thing that keeps the experience in the world of make-believe, I believe.

Thank you for the experience though, it was worth the ride.

How much snowflakes are there in the movie?
To me it is zillions. How do you make possible the production of the cg?
Thank you.

Polar Express (Tue Nov 23, 2004 3:17pm ET)report post
by Erin Chernesky
I recently took my four year old to see his first theater movie. Big mistake! Was this a G. movie? Was it a Christmas story? The hobo was a semi scary, seeming derelict. What contribution did his character make? The damaged toy scene with villanous, evil looking marionettes coming to life was over the top scary for a "children's holiday movie" My son jumped into my lap crying. What could have been your motivation to create a scene like that?
I am completely disappointed in the direction that was taken in this movie. The producers could have made this a beautiful movie instead of one marred with scary and senseless scenes.
I will never venture to see or support another Zemeskis or Hanks production. Shame on them for what could have been wonderful.

Zemeskis or Hanks

My husband and myself were touched by this movie as much as Contact and many of Mr. Zemeskis' movies. We bought Contact and plan on buying this one as well.

It is freaky, but my and my husbands birthdays are 13 and 15 of May - weird!

I think the scary parts in The Polar Express is just to warn us that you should be sure of what we do believe. Maybe this was not meant for a 4 year old, but a 6 year old, just like the boy in The Polar Express, will already understand something of what one wants or not wants to believe.

My favourate part was in the end when the conductor told the boy: "It does not matter where the train goes, but if you get on it" (...... not sure about the exact words)

Thank you, very much for this story that really touches life.

Yours sincerely

Picture of Dorian Gray (Mon Jan 12, 2004 7:51am ET)report post
by Jaideep Rajput
With due respect to you Mr Zemeckis , I would request you to please go through once what I am writing to you.
People have made Romeo and Juliet , Julias Ceaser, Cleopatra etc.. but no one has ever looked into the beauty of "Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. Trust me , I am not blowing my own trumpet but I am a ver well read 21 year old Electrical Engineer from India from one of the best institutes . I have directed and acted in plays in my institute and won accolades . I am dying to work on this piece. I am attaching a website address where you can read about the Picture of Dorian Gray
http://www.bookrags.com/notes/dg/CHR.htm.

The setup is an early 19th century late 18th century and revolves around 4 main characters
1.> Basil Harvard : Painter
2.> Dorian Gray : Magnificane personified
3.> Lord Heny Wotton : Cynical Lord though articulate
4.> Sibyl Vane :Dorian's Lover

Sir, I have read and researched this book for over a year now and I can tell you, ONLY YOU can put this marvel together and show your brilliance .
I know I am talking too much in too less time, but that's the way I am. I have also listed out people who can play the respective roles.
I am listing them out with proper justifications.

Basil Harvard ( Painter ) : Robert Di Nero. Looking at his roles in Casino , Analyse This , Ronin and A Band Apart where he sort of subtly pulls of a great performance . Similarly , here he can pull of with same subtleness.

Dorian Gray ( MAIN STAY ) : Leonardo Di Caprio. Lookin at his performance in Gangs of New York I think he has in him this unending charm.
I also think Brad Pitt can do this lookin at his charm in Met Joe black .

Lord Henry Wotton( Cynical Lord ) Hands down it has to be Al Pacino. If you closely look at Scent of a Woman , he will have to play the same pessimist but articulate lord who knows what he is talking about . Moreover he has the screen presence that no one can match

Sibyl Vane : Claire Danes. she's too good . that's all I can say about her ..

PLEASE SIR, DONT SHRUG IT OFF . I AM NOT WRITING IT TO YOU OFF THE COUGH. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF IT.

It's probably what i thought yesterday..everithing but i can't see de Niro as this painter...I can't see De Niro in the Victorian Age...although Al Pacino and Brad Pitt are perfect!I am with you!

Hi angel,
To be honest I never thought anyone would comment on this. Right now I am in New York and reading the PIcture of Dorian Gray even furhter to make sure I know it at the back of my hand.
Regarding DeNiro not being able to potray a Victorian Era Char,I guess you're right. But I'd be glad if you can throw some light on who cud be Basil. How about Geoffery Rush for Basil.
Furthermore, I think even Johnny Depp can be though of as some one portraying Dorian Gray. Let me know what you think of it. You have my email address.

THE MAGIC MAKER (Sat Jun 21, 2003 11:11pm ET)report post
by Curt
Robert Zemeckis in my opion is one of the best filmmakers in the business. How often do you see Back to the Future, Death Becomes her, and Forrest Gump in the same genre. His diverse imaganation is absoultly amazing. Other filmmakers try to accomplish such films but it is like they miss an element to the story. Also i must mention that his relationship between composer Alan Silvestri, and other crew establishes a great relationship. I hope you get a chance to see they are all intresting.
