| by Mabel Robert Zemeckis, HELLO--- Our high school, for the first time, has recently been granted permission to hold a cinimatography class. Although I often stuggle with technology I have been able to see an entire new world of art. After several projects such as stop action, audio replacement, and our most recent project using green screen, we have been asked present a famous director. Once being given several directors to choose from, I was most familiar with your films above the others;thus, you where choosen. Despite any information in text books, the internet, or in any speacial features menu, you are the only person who knows what separates you from other directors. Please, what makes your directing tecniques? How do you seperate your films from others? ~thanks Comment on this... |

| by Steve Shoup I was watching the movie "Polar Express" the other day and it had a scene where the children are being taken back home. The conducter gets on the intercom and states, "The next stop will be 11344 Edbrooke". It was hearing your old home address that memories of my childhood growing up at 114th Indiana, going to St. Willibrord school/parish, and the fun we had in Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts came back. I remember your Mom and the fun we had in Cub Scouts, a lot of it due to her leadership as our Den Mother. I remember the fun we had playing baseball in the school playground with the neighborhood kids (Dennis-the kid whose handicap of his crooked hands never let it get in the way of being a handicap, Terry O'Malley, etc.). I got, from the Polar Express, that you were trying to bring out the lessons that we learned from growing up in our neighborhood. We didn't come from rich families but we were rich with the closeness we found in our families, neighbors, and friends. I was surprised when I first heard that you had become a movie director and are now considered one of the best. It's not everyday that someone you know becomes famous. I've been a Chicago Police officer for 30 years and have seen the effect that so many of other films (violence, bad behavior, etc) have had in affecting the way today's teens act. I have seen most of the movies that you have produced and am pleased to see that you use the values that we learned from our parents and education in them. Please keep up the good work. I'm proud to have known you and I'm sure your parents are too. Comment on this... | ||||

| by Artemio S. Bravo Mr. Zemeckis, &/or staff, In case you do get to read this, or hear of it, I would like to have you know that I have a Film project that I know only you can compliment its morale/moral of the story. I would like to e-mail you the Outline, I know you will live it, judging by your Movie history; I think I can safely say that I wrote this story in tribute to your directing talent and the comical and acting talents of Jim Carrey.I have many others I would like to praise & thank for helping me understand things and making me laugh. I'm going to go out on a limb and tell you the name of the title, along with a Synopsis. I have a snail mail address I'm going to use to attempt contact with you; please do not judge me for seeming unconventional, now that I have access to e-mail addresses, it's just that I'm still somewhat internet illiterate. Hope to hear from you soon, before you hear from me again. Title- The Ballad of Bojo: The not so funny outlaw clown. Synopsis: Being born fatherless to a servant girl who pretends to be a lady of the evening to pay for her room & board at a brothel house, Beau Joseph "BoJo" McDraw, faces insurmountable odds as he grows up being mocked, teased and shunned by all the school boys and girls because of a birth defect on his face. That of a bulbous potato nose, about the size of a clown's, but not he same as round. In his journeys to try to fit in anywhere, he discovers the courage to become his own man and do his best in fulfilling his many a callings in life. The wild west bucks him off at every ride, but soon learns how to get back up and avoid the manure flung at him with the help of his powerful potato nose. Comment on this... |

| by Michael Nicholson I Wanna Hold Your Hand was great and the not- so obvious follow-up is Paul is Dead. Think about how supposedly some kid in highschool wrote a paper on how Paulie is dead and provided all these facts and then a DJ picks up on it. How it became so sensationalized and tabloidized- how these things overtake our life which is serious really but really hilarity. And the idea of rumors and dozens of other themes so it can have an underlying art film type context. And then think about all the cool things you can have in the film that can make it a great vicarious experience. And the Beatles are more popular now than before. It's a statement on like the myths for why we went to Iraq and relevant if you write the script right. Think about it- the DJ's place where he spread the rumor is a great 60s vintage setting. The school is something. But the hot spots of the area and then say the scene where the whoever it was or who you want to imagine it to be person cuts off the head of Paul from the Billboard picture of them- the giant picture of Abbey Road like the day it is up. To do that and not get caught is amazing in itself. But there are all kinds of varied stories at that level with the rumor. And then without really showing Paul there is the story of She Came In Through... with the Apple Scruffs- those hillarious maybe sit-com like groupies who made it their life to follow them everywhere and the fight for the merchandise at Apple as it was closing. There are plenty of great scenes and showcases for actors so they can showboat. And so many things with the times and not necessarily gross/ridiculous hippy. Just fun and cool and non-corporate from an imaginative indie spirit of providing showmanship bang for the buck and also vintage hilariousness. And the hype themes and how focusing on others causes us to lose ourselves and our lives can be written on many different levels like an art film. And today that would be more from real life but then especially in memory it seems to be mfore from celebrity which is hilarious- that celebrites could be such a big deal and fun too not just funny. And then the OJ Simpson lawyer and others did the serious documentaries on whether Paul was dead trying to show he was dead- which is hilarious too and cool. They can be shown in the background on the vintage set or in the studio and close up later like Good Night, Good Luck kind of. But there is a real sit-comy aspect to this that is the equal in a different way of I Wanna. And with the right writing like I could do at least in a rough form- I understand the basics of writing for emotional impact and all- but with the right writing this is just as much a universal statement like Good Night and more relevant now than a "silly" time capsule. It is even something that can be compared to say the myths about why we fought in Iraq- you know like how people would compare the Beatles album to Vietnam. But you have the great sit-com character potential- the high school student writting an essay on Paul is Dead and sparking it. The Apple Scruffs, the who ever chopped off the head of the billboard, the DJ's investigating it and say the people doing the documentaries. Just general people seriously investigating the evidence. There are way more cool events than just the billboard and with stuff like The Riot for the merchandise give-away at Apple and motorcycle people showing up at the building ready to kill, hey with an imaginative script from a great writer you have the potential for something both cool vintage in a vicarious way and univeral important message underneath the fun fluff. And you have some great ideas for the soundtrack. Like a voice-over announcing what a song is supposed to mean and then playing it backwards. And if you want you can hook in politics, Woodstock and so on any number of ways. But I think it should be sit-comy like Wanna too. Then in the end Paul is photographed at his ranch riding the pony with so many reporters asking if that is him or Billy Campbell. And that was supposedly Paul getting back at Asher who loved horses so he supposedly had the best gotten for him as he was still sorting out how to not be bankrupt from crooked lawyer deals and so on. Maybe placing the photos in the trade paper for actors so Asher could see him and Linda together in revenge. But Linda or Asher do not need to be in the story- the key for me is hype and how myth like how we were fooled about Iraq can sway us in a way that is fun to watch and makes us want to be in a different era and the amazing things and just the fact that a highschool kid writes a paper on Paul is Dead and a DJ picks up on it is hilarious with the vintage stuff from the school too. In fact this is more important than Good Night, Good Luck... Comment on this... |
