The following year, his film 8 Women (8 Femmes) received 12 César Award nominations including ones for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Fanny Ardant; Isabelle Huppert), Best Supporting Actress (Danielle Darrieux), and Best Female Newcomer (Ludivine Sagnier). The film's ensemble cast of eight actresses was jointly honored with the Silver Bear Award at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival as well as with the Best Actress Award from the European Film Academy. The film was one of France's Top 10 boxoffice hits of 2002.
Over the past decade, Mr. Ozon's short films and features have been screened in film festivals around the world. Of the short films, A Summer Dress (Une Robe d'été) and See the Sea (Regarde la Mer) are his best-known works. The former earned him his first César Award nomination, among other honors. The latter attracted international attention at the Locarno and San Sebastian International Film Festivals, and established his reputation in the U.S. at the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual New Directors/New Films series.
