| by J. F. "Jack" McMahon Julie Delpy is perhaps THE most underrated actress currently performing today. She has the talent and poise of many/most older actresses, domestic (USA) or foreign. Except for fellow French actress, Juliette Binoche, no one else is demostrating more talent on the big screen anr/or elsewhere. She ranks with Binoche and Dench, and already exceeds Kidman. Everyone else is in the rearview mirror. Everyone! Certainly, no current American actress even approaches her capacity of acting talent. She has matured and developed from film to film. If you only judge her abilities by her performance in "An American Werewolf...", then you are missing a great deal. Most of all, no other current actress, and perhaps no other film performer today has the same impact of presence that she has. Not Kidman, not Lopez, not Dench, not even Binoche. Think about it. Streep has long ago peaked. Who is left ? Zellweger has potential for true greatness, but is there anyone else? Delpy has been triumphant in at least two languages. Is it all attributable to genetics? Maybe some of her success, but it appears that she is a hard-working actress deserving any accolade. Already exhibiting the independence of Kate Hepburn, she is a heavyweight in a city of pretenders masquerading in shadow and mirrors. Comment on this... | ||||
