Actually...I live just outside of Jimmys hometown, previoulsy volunteered at the museum just that just shut down and have met and talked with his cousin markie and elderly that went to school with him...James was ambi-dextrious ...he wrote w/right, painted w/left, etc...I love discussing anything involving him w/anyone...he was just so unique...and to the comment by another person above...nothing like brando...its like comparing a great sculpture to a great song...how do you compare

Hi ! it's true, I have never noticed any obvious details that could tell us if he was left handed or right handed ... But I'm thinking that at the moment where he takes off the bullets of the gun in rebel, he takes them (it) with the right hand, think about the way you would have done it and I think you got your answer ...

DEAN sexuality (Tue Feb 7, 2006 11:43am ET)report post
by Dany
It's certain, now. JD had sex with men and women and not only for his career. Was he straight or homosexual? We can't know because he was only 24 years old when he died and may be it was only experimental as he said himself or some of his best friends ; after having read several biographies and heard many interviews and seen documentaries about JD , I personnaly think he would have become only straight. I think he really loved women even if he liked the company of men, because of his virile hobbies ( motos, cars, etc... ) but like many others men; after his death, for sharing a piece of the legend and benefit by his celebrity , too many people ( men and women ) have pretended to have been his close friends or lovers and it was often wrong ; he had few real friends because he was lonely and special; a thing I was sure is that he had no traces of cigarettes' burns on his body. You can see JD , in differents periods ,nuded chest, many times in films, TV films, and on pictures ( the last time on the set of GIANT ) and it's evident that his skin is perfectly clean on all his body . He liked to experiment many things in life ( sex, marijuana and alcool ) but he wasn't mad ; if his skin was marked with burns, it would have been seen and it would have been many testimonies about that ; this rumor was hawked by a not very commendable person and is not considered as true. the same thing about a claimed picture of JD nude in a tree which is a false made many years after JD's death , confessed by the authors themselves. JD himself is a little responsible of that : he was very troublemaker ; he was in his personnality and for keeping his reputation of rebel and original. He has been trapped . Everething and anything has been written about him and it's terrible because he can't answer. It's better to remember he was one of the most gifted actors in the history of cinema even he made only three films but also more than thirty TV films and two successful Theater plays. And he was really gifted for many others things : drawing, paintings ( he made beautiful watercolors, oil paintings ) , sculpting ( 2 of himself ) and music ( playing congas drums and flute , violon when he was child ), dance , photography ( he took interesting pictures black and white of Martin LANDAU his friend actor , and Bill GUNN ) writing poems, etc... That is not enough said ; his energy and all he made in a so short life is really amazing ....

DEFINITELY NOT GAY. (Thu Sep 1, 2005 2:34am ET)report post
by farrah
A lot of guys/gays claimed to have had an affair with him but I doubt it. anyone of us can say "i dated this certain celebrity,blablabla..." without any truth to it other than us being obsessed. James dean is DEFINITELY NOT GAY since he only slept with those directors or casting agents so he can get a part in a play. That's how driven he is with his ambition but when he started to become famous, he just dissed all of them. If he was really gay, he would've stick with his rumoured "lovers" but no. Besides, SLEEPING WITH SOMEONE WHO CAN GIVE YOU A JOB IN 50's HOLLYWOOD IS SO PREVALENT DURING THAT TIME. It's not so clean as it is today...

OMG (Fri Jul 29, 2005 11:37pm ET)report post
by XOXO
Jimmy Dean was a brilliant actor and amazingly cool. There is only one actual account of Jimmy's alleged homosexuality, and that was w/ Rogers Brackett purely out of ambition. He was mostly straight; just experimental. The things about his apparent proclivities towards cigarette burns, etc, is complete bullsh*t. Every girlfriend has said so. By the way, too many of Jimmy's friends, etc. said he was a visionary for the future to commit suicide. He didn't want to die, I feel sure of that through my research. I also believe that Jimmy was not responsible for the accident. HE was a genius, irreplacable in all the world- he idolized Brando and Clift but his acting was original and beautiful. Call me idealistic or naive or whatever the hell you want....this is what I believe, and not blindly, either. James Dean is simply the best, and quite frankly, anyone who believes he was a jerk, a copycat, a sexual freak, weird, gay, or something similar, I don't think you need help figuring out where I think you should go and how to get there.

well for me...the loss and connection of his mother, his need to excel and lose interest in so many things hed mastered, the beauty and masculinity in his face, gestures and physique...the icon that he buily around himself and the brilliance he bought to 3 difficult roles that symbolize something innocent and sensitive in all of us. I hope hes appreciated as much in the next 50 years.

All Dean did was copy Marlon Brando & Montgomery Clift, he even stalked them in real life. I didn't actually realize Dean was gay until recently.

he was the man (Sat Nov 20, 2004 1:40pm ET)report post

I thought he was one of the top best actors in hollywood of all time even though he only made 3 movies. His performance in rebel moved me like few movies can (move me that is) and i related so much. He didn't rely just on his strinkingly gorgeous looks, but on his talent. The ability to convey realistic emotion with those gorgeous blue eyes astonished me.

I totally agree this book is the best ever that I've read on James Dean and the new info on how he died. The art work is something else to. I've read several books by this guy it's like he's just talking to you. A strange and moving book I love it and no way will I lend it to friends because I know I won't get it back. I bought it from Amazon USA. Nice talking to you. Love to all. Hanora.
