Charlie was one of the funniest dudes that I had ever heard. Too bad he didn't have enough time to really do his thing the way he deserved to.

Too bad he's no longer with us, and to go so young. Charlie Barnett was brilliant. Saw him many times in Washington Square Park from around '79 or '80 until maybe '82 or so. Always drew a big crowd, strong original material. I can remember many of his jokes and bits 25 years later.

The Park was a great scene back then, and it was probably even better in the 10 years before that. Charlie Barnett was part of the vibrance, creativity and originality that just flowed from the streets of NYC in those days, and that has largely been driven out of Manhattan since.

Yeah, the village in the late 70's to 84 was great. Charly would do just enough of a set top get money and go get smack in the east village..
