| by susan The other evening we watched Now Voyager with Bette Davis & Claude Rains starring. He was a wonderful actor so natural, the early scene where he taps his pipe in the plant pot,wonderful. A lot of actors smoked piped in those days but noe with such realism, I think he was a better actor then say Ralph Richardson or Guilgud,pity he did not appear on the West End stage more but we have many fine films to remember him for; the evil Prince John in Robin Hood, Mr Smith Goes to Washington,Casablanca & especially Mr Skeffington.Pity he never won an oscar but then neither did Edward G.Robinson or Garbo. He was especially good with Bette Davis & she said he was the greatest actor that she ever worked with & she had worked with Muni,Tracey,Fonda,Bogart,Redgrave,Cagney,Guiness,etc, think there was a special chemistry between them.
