Biography #2 (for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow)

Giovanni Ribisi is one of modern cinema's most electrifying talents, as evidenced by a series of knockout performances that have demonstrated his incredible acting range. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of a morally torn police officer in Heaven, alongside Cate Blanchett, and was nominated for Best Supporting Male at the 2001 Independent Spirit Awards for his emotionally charged turn in The Gift, directed by Sam Raimi. Intensely committed to his craft, Ribisi has starred in a diverse slate of motion pictures within a relatively brief time frame. Credits to date include Boiler Room, with Ben Affleck; Gone in Sixty Seconds, opposite Nicolas Cage; director Garry Marshall's The Other Sister; Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, in which he was a standout as a doomed young medic; Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation; and Cold Mountain, directed by Anthony Minghella.

Additional credits include Lost Highway, SubUrbia, First Love, Last Rites, That Thing You Do! The Mod Squad, Scotch and Milk, The Virgin Suicides, Masked and Anonymous and Basic. Giovanni Ribisi has made a name for himself as one of Hollywood's most promising young talents thanks to a series of impressive performances.

He most recently starred opposite Cate Blanchett in the intense love story Heaven directed by Tom Tykwer. For The Gift, also with Blanchett, he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male for his portrayal of an emotionally damaged mechanic. He also received critical praise for his performance as a stockbroker in Boiler Room with Ben Affleck, Vin Diesel and Nicky Katt. Ribisi also appeared opposite as Nicolas Cage in Gone in Sixty Seconds.

Ribisi's notable performances include the role of a mentally challenged bakery worker in director Garry Marshall's The Other Sister opposite Juliette Lewis, and as the haunted medic 'Pvt. Wade' in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. Additional credits include Lost Highway, SubUrbia, First Love, Last Rites, That Thing You Do!, The Mod Squad, Scotch and Milk and The Virgin Suicides. In 1999, Ribisi received the ShoWest Male Star of Tomorrow award.

The busy actor recently completed five back-to-back features including Cold Mountain directed by Anthony Minghella, writer/director Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation, Masked & Anonymous with Bob Dylan, writer/director Jan Sardi's Love's Brother and the starring role in writer/director Adam Goldberg's psychological drama I Love Your Work.
