by Linda Lorenzetti
Hi, I worked as interpreted for Portrait of a Lady, in Lucca. I am writing a Thesis/book about it now. I would like to ask few questions to Jane, so that I can introduce important details about the filming, is there any chance I may do it? Thanks! Linda

Divine Poetry (Fri Sep 18, 2009 11:29pm ET)report post

Jane-
I listened to you on NPR today. Your movie "Bright Star" really sounded touching and inspiring. Like yourself, I have not been moved by poetry too much in the past until quite recently I started reading a book called "Whispers From Eternity" by Paramahansa Yogananda. These poems fill me with such intense heart felt feeling and emotion. The most beautiful poetry I have ever read in my life. Please read these prayer poems sometime. Perhaps you have already....SmileJoy to you!

Filmmaking in Kentucky (Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:56pm ET)report post
by Jo Spencer
I would like to make contact with Jane Campion. I am a screenwriter; trying to get my first feature into production here in Kentucky. All the independent directors I have had contact with are males and have no real appreciation for the nature of this script. I need to find a woman director to collaborate with and Jane Campion is my favorite.

Representations in Jane Campion films (Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:07am ET)report post
by Amy
Hey, like many of you I am also studying Jane Campion as part of my A level critical research and I am particularly focusing on how she represents women in her films. I am looking at the films The Piano, In the cut and An Angel at my table. If any of you have seen any these, how would you say the women are represented in these films?

1) Positively or negatively? and why?
2) Stereotypical or not?
3) Any themes that help the representation of these women?

Please feel free to comment on anything else about the representations Smile

Sci-fi Scriptwriter (Sun Oct 5, 2008 8:20pm ET)report post
by JJ Diambrini-Palazzi
Am a sci-fi writer (movie and TV) particilarly interested in capturing the interest and imagination of women into this all too often male genre. GODZ GARDEN is the first of three scripts (currently being re-written for TV) I'd love Ms Campion to look over. Would really appreciate her ideas and response to the storyline. She can contact me via my email or if she wishes through my entertainment lawyer, by rquest.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I have songs for Jane Campiom (Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:13pm ET)report post
by Judy Miller
Hi,
I am from South AFrica and born 3 days before Ms. Campion. I have been a searcher for years and written inspiration and moving songs for 18 years which only this year I have decided to record. I would love to get a CD to Jane Campion for her to listen to if she were ever to want something on a soundtrack if the theme of the movie were about searching for oneself, growth, etc etc. I am undiscovered but know I have good material. Thank you.

Help!! (Wed Nov 24, 2004 8:13am ET)report post
by Nicola Davidson
Hey, i'm new to this forum, but i'm currently doing my A-levels and i'm undergoing Critical Research on Jane Campion and the Representation of women in her films. I would be rerally grateful if you would help me by answering a few questions on the three films, 'The Piano', 'in the Cut' and 'A Portrait of a Lady'.

1. Can you define what you understand the word FEMINISM to mean?

2. What do you understand about the representation of women in the three films listed above?

3. What themes and issues do you think were being portrayed in these films?

feminism is about being girly, and proud of it, but in an emotive and forceful way. its like someone who is proud of their roots and does not want to conform to the ways of others to defy their stereotype. feminism is about having the balls to stand up for womens rights, against discrimination of women and changing peoples opinions of women.

i've only seen the piano and i nearly fell asleep watching it (very boring). it portrays women as sexual, powerful and occasionally dominant over the men.

themes and issues???.....hmmmm......let me think... maybe the reversal of gender roles with the man taking on the submissive and more traditionally female role?... exploring sexuality?...i don't really know sorry

best of luck with the research nicola.
hope i could help though, seeing as no one else has bothered replying.

I can't find any way to let Jane Campion or Nicole Kidman know that they would be capable of a fantastic adaptation of Kate Chopin's The Awakening, and they should check it out!
