Alberta Watson Biography (2)

Alberta Watson is well known to television audiences for her series lead role as Madeline on the cable hit, La Femme Nikita. Also for television, Ms Watson earned a Gemini nomination for her role opposite Sam Shepard in Jeremy Podeswa's After the Harvest. She also starred in Jerry Ciccoritti's Chasing Cain and Chasing Cain - Face, Guilt By Association, with Mercedes Ruehl, and the upcoming movie Choice, the story of controversial physician Dr. Henry Morgentaler.

In 1979, the Toronto native earned her first Genie nomination for her feature film performance in George Kaczender's In Praise Of Older Women and, just a year later, took home the Yorkton Film Festival's Best Actress Award for Exposure. Since then, she has amassed an impressive list of credits including lead roles in the soon-to-be-released indie film The Risen; Thom Fitzgerald's award-winning The Wild Dogs; Spanking The Monkey, which was included among Entertainment Weekly's top ten best indie films of the 1990s; the cult horror classic, The Keep, with Sir Ian McKellan and Scott Glenn; Colleen Murphy's Shoemaker, which earned her a Genie Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role; and Atom Egoyan's critically acclaimed The Sweet Hereafter. Her film credits also include Colleen Murphy's Desire, Deeply, co-starring Lynn Redgrave and Kirsten Dunst, Tart, with Melanie Griffith, and director John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig And The Angry Inch. Ms Watson is also set to start work on the feature My Brother's Keeper, with Aaron Ashmore.
