Colin Clive is a British stage and screen actor most famous for portraying Dr Frankenstein in James Whale's two universal Frankenstein films Frankenstein (1930) and Bride of Frankenstein (1931).
Clive was born in France and became a stage actor, he first worked with Whale on a production about the horrors of trench warfare and subsequently joined the British community in Hollywood in the 1930s. He suffered chronic alcoholism and died in 1937.
