Inland Empire (Wed Aug 15, 2007 7:44am ET)report post
by Michael J. Marini
To see Laura Dern in David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE is to enjoy and perish in the role of a life time, which Ms. Dern delivers with style, debasement, class and a whore-ish fever. along with Lynch, dern took me places within myself I'd rather not go. The dark and spiralling out of control disembodiment of one's soul that is required for re-construction. That is the type of performance Dern provides in IE. You don't just watch her on this path, you go with her; and if you are lucky, you unknowing follow your own path within. A powerful performance that has only been provided by Laura Dern within the wierd and wonderful world of David Lynch. 10 of 10 stars. Laura Dern is a great actress and what I believe to be an honest, ethical and beautiful human being. What more could anyone want?

laura dern, a phenomenal woman (Sat Jun 10, 2006 11:15am ET)report post

I just have 2 say Laura Dern I am your # 1 fan. I admire you so much as an individual but also as an actress. You have refused to be type cast and have often steered away from Hollywood Blockbusters in search of more "meatier" roles, if that makes any sense. I have literally seen almost all of ur movies, a couple I have been unable to get a hold of but my favourites are BLUE VELVET, CITIZEN RUTH, DOWN CAME A BLACKBIRD and WILD AT HEART. U r amazing, I luv ya and Way 2 go, keep acting for us cuz u got the goods, lol

silent running & jurassic park (Sun Aug 14, 2005 8:02am ET)report post
by Gregory Scott Callen
Dear Laura,

It seems your dad and you have a common theme, "Man corrupting or destroying nature." In the early 70's I was greatly influenced by "silent running" As I entered manhood I looked back on the SciFi's I grew up on, "Silent Running" (your dad's film), "Omega Man" (about the result of medical research gone wrong), "Andromida Strain" (Also from Michael Crichton).

It got me thinking, back in the 80's, about genetics and what would happen if humans were to get a solid understanding of dinosaur genes.

Sometime later, after my ideas became reasonably well thought out; I realized it would not be practical to write a book myself (I'm somewhat dyslexic and spell-checkers weren't far enough along).

I came up with a plan where I could give a published author my ideas and he would write my book. (email didn't exists either) This plan was so simple the only pieces of technology I needed was the telephone!

I would dial phone numbers at random in or near Hollywood. Pretty close to the first number I dialed I got Michael Crichton and gave him the seed he grew into the flower known as "Jurassic Park"

Your dad's work was my inspiration; and now, you and your work has made it back to me. I am very pleased. Big smile

The seige at Ruby Ridge. (Sat Oct 4, 2003 12:17am ET)report post
by Darius Mazaheri
I thought that movie was sad, and it was not right that the government was doing that to the weavers, just because they were crazy and they were. I mean 'My God'. Giving your kids guns and letting them use them. I mean what is this world coming to. It's bad enough that kids on the other side of the world are carrying guns, what now kids in this country, have to be carrying them, too.

An idea inspired from viewing the documentary, "Searching for Debra Winger". (Sat Aug 23, 2003 3:39am ET)report post
by Jean Himebaugh
Dear Laura Dern,

I'm not sure if you really read these guestbook entries or not, but by chance you do, I would like to submit an idea for a movie.

I know this sounds corny or even naive - but I was watching HBO the other night and saw Rosanna's Documentary, "Searching for Debra Winger" and it inspired me to joint down this idea for a specific part for any middle-aged actress to play that would be interested.

In a nutshell - it could be a comedy, but I prefer it to be a drama in order to strike a "heart-felt" emotion to the audience and convey a message about how woman they are seen by others and by themselves.

I am sincerely interested in telling this idea to an actress or a director who would take this into consideration seriously. But if this forum doesn't get read by Laura Dern - I feel really stupid and silly for even taking the time to write this entry.

Please reply if this entry truly appeals to you, with honesty and sincerity.

Laura dern is so different in so many wonderful ways from every other actor I know. Although I am not a professional film critic and only watch movies for entertainment, I believe I am correct when I say Laura Dern is among the top two or three most talented actors of my lifetime or any time. If you want to see a wonderful performance every time and fall hopelessly in love with one of the world's sexiest and most beautiful women, go to the theater and watch Laura Dern movies and then, when they come out in DVD, buy them and treat yourself to the talents of this incredible actress over and over again. It was her unbelievable beauty that first attracted me to see one of her movies, but it is now her broad repertoire of diverse monster performances and her awesome beauty that make me love this great actress. Since I do not try to keep up on the latest gossip about celebrities, I am not knowledgeable as to Laura's personal life, but I wish her success in her every endeavor in both her professional and especially in her personal life. What a great joy it must be to know her.

I fully agree with Mr. Jones. Never paid any attention to LD years ago when I saw her in Jurassic Park. About 6 months ago I saw Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Citizen Ruth. I was watching a woman who looked very normal, not a big star who depended on looks and figure. I was watching an ACTRESS! Citizen Ruth knocked my socks off! I never saw anyone throw themselves in a role with such realism! She made herself look trashy despite the possibility of nasty criticism. That one I had to own so I could see it any time. I have seen only six, but I'm hitting the rental stores for everything and I printed out the list to take with me. Never had such facination for a star!!
