My husband Ian Hunter (who was 11 at the time) played the part of the boatowner's son when part of the film was made in the village of Portpatrick. He found him to be very pleasant and not unapproachable off the set. He seemed quite happy to mix with the local people when not filming. The older people of Portpatrick still talk about the summer of 1952 when their village was famous for 3 weeks when the handsome young Dirk Bogarde came to their village
