| by Marlon It's hilarious how the US government put the face of Elvis Presley on a postage stamp after he died from a drug overdose. His fans don't mention he was a drug addict or that he stole black music to become famous because they don't want to give up on their myths. The bloated, over-the-hill singer suddenly drawing people to Las Vegas in the 1970s had nothing to do with excellence, only myth. Comment on this... | ||||

| by Leyton The sweater worn by Elvis in Jailhouse Rock seems to be an Arran jumper from Ireland, can anyone confirm this?? It is something I am very interested to find out and would appreciate anyone with knowledge or views to post a comment. Comment on this... |

| by Ben I find Elvis Presley interesting because he was a country boy but not a cowboy. There is a difference here. Cowboys are from the country but they do not farm and are idealized. Europe has country people in peasants, and as we all know, peasants farm. Yet all farmers are not peasants. My grandfather was a farmer in Saskatchewan and he drove to work in a car. He milked his cows, did his chores and drove home at the end of the day. Very unromantic. And he was not a peasant. Caanda and the United States never had peasants. Some people from Elvis' part of the country never grew up drinking milk, it never was a part of his diet. Which gives him something in common with cowboys, but for a different reason. I found the subject so fascinating I wrote a self-published book through Lulu.com. Which you can find at the URL: http://www.lulu.com/content/236004 Comment on this... |
