Gone, but never forgotten. (Thu Mar 4, 2004 3:15pm ET)report post
by Daniel Goodman
She was one of the most beautiful actresses, who ever lighten up the screen. She has died for many years, and what a terrible cause of death for such a wonderful woman. Robert Wagner should have taken care of her and not have left her years ago. He was Jealous of her getting famous. She really loved her and if she hadn't taken a lot of pills and dranken a lot of alcohol, then she wouldn't have drowned. That was why she died that night, when she, RJ and Christopher Walken. If she hadn't taken all those sleeping pills, then she wouldn't have gotten so tired and letted go of the rope and drown. You will be able to see for yourself, watch The Mystery of Natalie Wood.

On the morning after Natalie Wood drowned, the search helicopter spotted her body at 7:44 AM (Pacific Time). The ominous-sounding Beatles song "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" (the last song on Side 1 of the original vinyl LP of the "Abbey Road," 1969, album) ends, not with a fadeout or any sort of conventional coda, but with the song suddenly cutting off in mid-note, as if the tape had run out, when the CD time counter hits exactly 7 minutes and 44 seconds. The famous album-length piece "Tubular Bells," by Mike Oldfield also has a sharp edit when Part 1 (Side 1 of the original vinyl LP) hits the 7:44 mark. This is what separates the opening passages (from which the 45 rpm single version of "Tubular Bells" was edited) from the rest of the piece, which has a different feel.

Neverending Story part 2 connection (Sat Oct 11, 2003 1:03am ET)report post
by Will
If you watch the movie Neverending Story 2 you will see many connections to Natalie Wood and her life. Both 'Nimbly' and 'Barney' mention many items that could be considered 'references' to her. Most unusual is the character 'Lavaman.' Watch the first scene he appears and listen VERY carefully; in the background you can here a very low male voice saying, "natalie natalie natalie." Lavaman then says the word "WOULD" in a sentence, making it sound as if the name Natalie Wood is being spoken. Rent it and find it for yourself!!

Just like the death of Marilyn Monroe in 1962 was followed by the pop music revolution of the 1960s: the British Invasion, folk-rock, soul, delica, etc., with an emphasis on the blues, folk and country roots of rock (such as Bob Dylan and The Byrds). I get the idea that Monroe's spirit after she died helped bring these to the forefront of pop. Likewise, after Natalie Wood died in late 1981, there was a revival of "roots" and blues music starting in the mid-1980s (about the time of the "Live Aid" charity music events), when it seemed to be in danger of dying out. As someone said at the time, "Pop went in search of its heart and found its roots." There also were bands like The Pogues, which fused punk-rock with Irish tradition to create a sort of updated rootsy folk-rock sound for the post-punk era.

Rock band Procol Harum's multi-movement song "In Held 'Twas in I," a 17+ minute track on their 1968 album "Shine on Brightly," seems to predict the events of the night that Natalie Wood would drown. About 4 or 5 minutes into the song, there's a section that could be called "'Twas Teatime at the Circus" with lines like "And though the crowd clapped desperately, they could not see the joke." That could describe their dinner at the restaurant on Catalina Island where they entertained locals. This segues (by a thunder sound effect) into the next part, which might be called "In the Autumn of My Madness." This could be the drunken atmosphere that erupted in the argument aboard the yacht "Splendour" (the music intensifies while shouted voices echo in the background). This then cuts sharply to an ominous-sounding instrumental section, then drops away to a mournful part where the singer laments "If I'd been a wise man, this would never have occurred." This could be Robert Wagner regretting arguing with Natalie.

One song that may have foretold Natalie Wood's drowning is the early 1970s hit "13 Questions" by the band Seatrain. The "three earth men" who "confront" the singer could be Robert Wagner, Christopher Walken and Dennis Davern (the "Splendour"'s skipper). The "party of us all" where the moon is "hung like a Chinese ball" could be the last dinner with Natalie on Catalina Island. And the band's name, Seatrain, refers to the sea and possibly drowning in it.

Pink Floyd's 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the albums that may have predicted Natalie Wood's drowning. The album consists of 10 segued tracks whose sequence seems to start with the discovery of Natalie's body in the cove ("Speak to Me," complete with a helicopter-type sound effect), then flashes back to the events leading up to it. The next-to-last track, "Brain Damage" (the title sounds close to "Brainstorm," Natalie's last movie) contains lines like "You shout and no one seems to hear" (Natalie's final cries for help were supposedly unheeded). Natalie's death involved a love triangle between Natalie, husband Robert Wagner and co-star Christopher Walken; and there is a triangle (prism) on the cover of "Dark Side of the Moon."

The cover of the Beatles album "Abbey Road" shows the 4 Beatles crossing at a crosswalk. There is a Volkswagen parked in the background. The license plate reads "LMW" across the top and "281F" across the bottom. "LMW" could be the last initials of the movie stars Carole Lombard, Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood. As for the "281F": At the time the album came out (1969), 2 of the actresses were already dead (Lombard in 1942, Monroe in 1962) and the third one (Wood) would die in 1981. The "F" could stand for "fate."

One song that may have predicted Natalie Wood's drowning was Procol Harum's 1967 hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale." The opening verse describing a room "humming harder," a flying ceiling and a crowd calling out "for more," describes the restaurant on Catalina Island where the Wagners and Christopher Walken had supper that evening. The title line "A whiter shade of pale" describes the appearance of Natalie's body when it was recovered from the water. And one of the people involved in the investigation, Paul Miller, is even mentioned by name ("The miller told his tale").
