| by John J. McAlpine Respectfully, I must say that the benchmark of America's greatness should be its past and not other countries. Let other countries make up lame excuses in justifying their greatness by pointing out how 'less-great' other countries are in comparison to them; in whatever circumstances they may be.
Having said that, Michael Mann was doing what other Americans have been doing for over 200 years: Questioning their government however way they please without having to fear any backlash or other forms of gestapo-like repercussions from the governement.
We all might disagree with him but then again, there are also many people who disagree with us. We must learn and finally accept the idea to 'agree to disagree' for that was how this country maintain its own balance on the political scale.
Yes, he might be persecuted for saying things against the Iraqi government if he's the citizen of that country but that doesn't justify our government invading other countries. This is not to say we should let the atrocities continue in Iraq, but we must follow proper procedures and achieve some from of a consensus from the international community which was and still is absence.
By the way, the gassing and killing of Iraqi people were already under way while Saddam was still the darling of the United States, in case you didn't know. So, what does that say about out government? Just a point to ponder...
