| by Mike the Brit. Not sure what he's doing on a film site although he was one of the hilights in an otherwise dull Scorcese "classic", 'the Last Waltz'. As a live act, one of the legendary must sees, in his prime. Now just works a well worn groove, or is that a rut? Made some of the best themed rock/pop albums recorded and his big soulful voice has had many pale imitators sounding like they're no where near his league.(Give up lads, unless you're a real man!) Original songwriter whose gift is melody, there was a time when he could do no wrong. Poet meets musician meets troubled man added up to a powerful formula. His voice carried it to an even higher level. However, as for many early bloomers, seemed to run out of puff, but just kept rolling them out when perhaps he should've been 'enjoying' a well earned holiday. The result was his work became as tired as he was. The seemingly endless run of dross has damaged his reputation for sure, but at least it's showed he's a fully paid up trouper, or is that 'troubedour'? Immensely influential to many other artists and downright rip off merchants, a modern day Celtic giant. Here's cheers to Van. Comment on this... |
