i am waiting for mr spielberg to do an adaptaiton of john bellairs "the house with the clock in its walls" or maybe a bigfoot adaptation with a delusioned outdoorsmen trying to frantically capture the monster on the outside of the tent while he is inside it.Maybe mark wahlberg could play the outdoorsman who tries to capture the beast on camera. to update the legend morphing images of the bigfoot creature could be used as it changes form a woodsman to a creature.

A great director, But (Thu Feb 10, 2005 5:31pm ET)report post
by Tony Beaumont
I have been a fan of Mr. Spielberg's work since the beginning.
He is without doubt one of the greatest film directors of our time.
His films have been inovative, ground breaking, inspiring and thought provoking.
That having been said I'm sure that even he has finished projects and not been totaly happy with them, and I'm also sure that he does not expect everyone to like everything he does.
Being a film director, actor, singer or anything in the entertainment business you have to be able to except criticism as well as praise.
I have loved the majority of the films that he has directed, no not all but the majority.
When the rumour went round that there was going to be a remake of War Of The Worlds, I was praying for Mr. Spielberg to be the director.
H. G. Wells is also a hero of mine and after the 1953 version of the film which was so far removed from Wells original story as to be laughable, I was sure that if anyone could do it right it would be Mr. Spielberg.

You can imagine how dissapointed I was to find that Mr. Spielberg far from making a film that was loyal to H. G. Wells original story. was going to be nothing more than a more expensive remake of the 1953 version.
No. 1 it was not set in America No. 2 it was set in the victorian 1800's and No. 3 once you change that part of the story the whole point of the film is lost.

I can understand American directors wating to pay lip service to the American public especialy when millions of dollars are spent on the buget for a film, but in my honest opinion if that gets in the way of being true to the subject matter of the film your producing than leave it alone and do something else.
If the American people only want to see American actors acting in America, then please! Please! stick to subject matter that is in line with that ideology.
After reading the coments on this forum I know that this coment will not go down well with our American brothers.

I ask you to look at it this way, would any of you bother to go to the cinema to watch a cowboy film set in England with English actors?, well maybe for a laugh but thats all.
To us taking a story from one of our greatest authors and trashing it (I'm sorry but to me that's what it is) is no different to someone burning the American flag in front of you, I or should I say we would never do that so why would you think that we will except this kind of treatment of a story written by an English author.

I dare say that this will be deleted and I doubt very much that Mr. Spielberg will ever see my comments, well in all honesty I doubt that Mr. Spielberg ever looks at this forum.
I apologise if I've upset anyone that was not my intention, but sometimes things need to be said and I'm sure that Mr. Spielberg would be the first to agree with me.

All the best to the people on this forum and have a good life.

Tony Beaumont U.K.
