Peterson grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and began her career with acting lessons as an early adolescent. At the age of 13, she signed with an agent and manager and decided to audition in Los Angeles. After quickly being booked for a commercial, Peterson returned home to Colorado where she volunteered her acting services in training videos for the Arvada Police Department.

Upon her return to Los Angeles the following year, Peterson was booked for a Coca-Cola commercial and landed a part on an episode of Fudge, a children's program on ABC. A few months later, she was cast in the lead role in the original Showtime/USA film Homecoming, opposite Anne Bancroft. A guest starring role on Touched by an Angel and another original Showtime movie, Legend of the Lost Tomb opposite Stacy Keach, followed soon after.

Most recently, this busy and talented actress starred in four episodes of MTV's Undressed and landed a recurring role on Fox's Get Real. Her other credits include the film Farewell My Love, PAX's Chicken Soup for the Soul, and starring roles in UPN's Last Man on Planet Earth and in Primal Force, opposite Ron Perlman.

Peterson lives in Burbank with her baby basset, Cloey. In her spare time she loves listening to music, working out, reading, and watching movies.
