Leaving Las Vegas (Sun Apr 8, 2007 2:18am ET)report post
by xking
watched again, liked it...actually, it was tonight.
he almost made a masterpiece in that one, but it was not.
even though the score was great, it was overused from Mike-director. if he just played a bit with silence and sounds. acting was perfect, story line very radical, beautiful, too...but, man, music sometimes just choked certain scenes and took some truth from it making it "overstylish"... it was very good music though...and when I say that more careful use would help film, i don't think od drastically reducing amount of music, just some shrewd use of poses etc.
However,
great piece of cinema

I will try this as a way to contact Mr. Figgis. There is a young lady I desperately want you to contact. She has won acting awards, but received those in college. I hope you can read something into this.

Cold Creek Manor - REALLY bad (Sun Mar 7, 2004 8:13am ET)report post
by Jake Alter
The only who done it here is whether it was the screenwriter or the director who perpetrated this piece of crap on the audience. As bad as this movie was, it was pretty funny to see the alternate ending which actually might have put the film in the category of all time shockingly awful movies. As it is, it's just pathetically dull and moronic. You have a thriller with no thrills, no surprises, no suspense, no pay offs but alot of senseless and absurd motivations and actions. Unbelievablythe DVD contained a rules of the genre segment. Uh ok. Maybe next time the film makers will abide by it. How did Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone get conned into making this dog anyway?

Figgis needs to learn how to construct a story that coheres and makes sense. Genius? Phooey!

Absolutely right! "Leaving Las Vegas" is one of the worst films of all time. Conspicuously absent from the maestro's background is any training in literature. He doesn't know how to tell a story. The opening salvo of "leaving" might have had one shot of lush-buying-booze next to healthy lady's food groceries (without the way-over-the-top avalanche). And an alcoholic screenwriter would be somewhat animated and witty--not speaking in drab monosyllables as Cage did throughout the "story." Several people I know walked out of the film, and I envy them. I stayed because my date wanted to watch it right up to its morose ending. Bad writing, bad directing, bad acting. Could it beany worse?

Ha ha, excellent! This movies belongs to that elite of film making where the film is either absolutely loved or just simply hated. I haven't actually met anyone yet who says 'ah, Leaving Las Vegas, well, was sort of ok.."etc It has that 'something" that you either SEE, love and stays with you or you completely miss. Oh yeah, it kinda stayed with me. Smile

Cold Creek Manor (Sat Sep 20, 2003 5:53pm ET)report post
by Ryan Brenan
What a twist! What a crazy movie! The snake scene was terrible. The whole movie was abysmal. People left during it. When one guy was leaving, I said, "Good move", really loud and the theater erupted into laughter.

The tires are slashed on the truck and Dale has some how gotten the uniform of a cop but i am sure he left the Jeep intact. nope - its an inferno, with the windows smashed out. There was suspense but no pay-off at any point.

Honey, I din't kill your horse. First of all, I wasn't driving in the pool.

The worst movie i have seen since Once Upon a time in Mexico. CCM does feature the line "Do you have any last words?" "Geronimo" Geronimo? look out below, here comes one of the worst movies of the decade.

You're so on the money here - the guy is a charlatan! If you've only seen the theater version do yourself a favor and rent the dvd for the bonus material. I initially thought the movie had nothing good in it, but the "documentary" and deleted scenes (especially the "alternate ending") are absolutely fantastic. "A terrible beauty..."
