Kirshner gained almost overnight prominence in the Canadian film industry with her provocative starring roles in Denys Arcand's Love and Human Remains (Genie nomination) and Atom Egoyan's Exotica (Cannes Critics Choice Award). Drawing attention in Hollywood, the Toronto actress has added American films to her list of credits that include Murder in the First, The Crow: City of Angels, as well as The Grass Harp, Mad City, Anna Karenina, Saturn, Out of the Cold and Dark Summer.

Kirshner's television credits include the ABC television feature Johnny's Girl, as Treat Williams' black-hearted daughter.

The daughter of a journalist father and a mother who's a teacher, Kirshner began acting in grade school and made her professional debut in her early teens, accruing Canadian and American television credits before segueing into film.
