| by Hapana La I am with Cob on this one. Maybe it's a male-female thing, as many men find Meryl Streep to be annoying. I can't believe that people accept her as being great at accents, when they slip all the time. Possibly her lowest point in accents was Azaria, but she was pretty ordinary in Out of Africa, too. One of her most irritating screen mannerisms is her refusal to look at the people she's working with. Instead, she plays with her hair, mumbles and looks away. You see it all through Heartburn, where Jack Nicholson was trying to drag some life into their on-screen relationship, only to be shut down by Meryl Streep, who wafted off into her interior world again! | by Lauren Epstein MERYL STREEP, I THINK, IS THE BEST ACTRESS BECAUSE SHE KNOWS WHEN TO BE FUNNY AND WHEN TO BE SERIOUS; WHEN TO BE SERIOUS AND WHEN TO BE FUNNY. SHE CAN MASTER PRETTY MUCH ANY DIALECT ALONG WITH BLOCKING, SPOTTNG, AND ENGLISH TEXT FOR ANY MOVIE SHE'S BEEN IN. I AGREE, SHE SHOULD HAVE WON MORE OSCARS THAN SHE HAS; ESPECIALLY FOR music of the heart AND silkwood. SHE PRACTICED THE VIOLIN FOR 6 HOURS EVERY SINGLE DAY UNTIL music of the heart WAS FINISHED. SHE COMPLETELY GRASPS THE IDEA THAT YOU DON'T NECESSARILY NEED SOME "MERYL" IN ANY CHRACTER SHE PLAYS. YOU WOULD REALY ONLY NEED THAT IF THE CHARACTER SHE WAS PORTRAYING WAS MERYL STREEP HERSELF. MOST ACTRESSES DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO LEAVE THEIR OWN SELVES OUT OF A CHARACTER, BUT MERYL DOES. SHE IS A DYNAMIC WOMAN WITH SO MUCH VERSATILITY, LOVE, PASSION, AND TALENT. SHE HAS PLAYED MANY VARIOUS TYPES OF CHARACTERS TO CRITICAL ACCLAIM. PEOPLE ARE ALSO ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINOINS, SO DON'T PUT DOWN OTHERS OPINIONS WHO AREN'T SO ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT MERYL STREP AS WE ARE. Comment on this... | ||||

The really great actresses use a lot of their own personality and experience in their performances. Streep is merely a chameleon who does extremely clever imitations.
