She is a military brat as her mother is a Captain in the United States Navy on active duty and her father is a retired United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel. Her acting career started at age 3 when she appeared both on stage and in an advert for Disney Cruise Lines. She is the recipient of two Youth in Film, Young Artist Awards.
