Biography #2 (for Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie)

Contrary to popular belief, Jeff Foxworthy is not an overnight success story. Before starring on The Jeff Foxworthy Show for two seasons, releasing many best-selling CDs and books and selling out major theaters, Foxworthy was on a first-name basis with every Holiday Inn manager in the country. Years of relentless touring, mastering the art of sleeping while standing up and waking at the crack of dawn to do morning radio and television interviews all helped mold Foxworthy into one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country.

The Jeff Foxworthy Countdown, a weekly syndicated 3-hour radio show, debuted in April 1999, bringing fans current Top 25 country hits as well as interviews. The show, which is carried in more than 210 markets across the U.S., earned Foxworthy a CMA nomination for Broadcast Personality of the Year in 2001.

To date, Foxworthy's recording sales have tallied over 13 million units, making him the largest-selling comedy-recording artist in history. His last album, Big Funny, received a 2000 Grammy Award nomination, the fourth honor Foxworthy has received for his recording efforts. Totally Committed, released in May 1998, has reached gold status and also received a 1999 Grammy nomination. His first CD, You Might be a Redneck If has been registered triple platinum (3 million units), the only time a comedy CD has reached this mark and it has also become the largest-selling comedy recording of all time. Foxworthy's Games Rednecks Play was certified platinum a mere five weeks after its release. It went on to achieve triple platinum status and received a 1996 Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. The single, Games Rednecks Play, with country star Alan Jackson, was nominated for a 1997 Grammy for Best Vocal Collaboration. It was Foxworthy's salute to his hometown of Atlanta, host city for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

A regular on such shows as The Tonight Show and The Late Show With David Letterman, Foxworthy also has an HBO special and two Showtime specials to his credit, one of which earned a CableAce nomination. Foxworthy has also been honored with a People's Choice Award as Favorite Male Newcomer for The Jeff Foxworthy Show and won TNN's Comedian of the Year three years in a row.

Foxworthy has authored 11 best-selling books, which have sold more than 5 million copies. His autobiography, No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem, spent two months on the New York Times Bestseller List and sold more than 600,000 copies. His calendars have sold more than 1.5 million copies and he also has a line of greeting cards through American Greetings.

Fourteen years ago, Foxworthy quit his $30,000-a-year job to work the comedy club circuit for a whopping $20 a night. He quickly began winning national and regional comedy contests and developed a loyal fan base. Those first six or seven years, he paid his dues by working 48 weeks a year on the road, and the end result of his hard work was a win for Best Stand-Up Comic at the 1990 American Comedy Awards. Foxworthy went on to open for such acts as Garth Brooks, Jay Leno, The Judds, Eddie Rabbit and Wynton Marsalis.

Away from the stage, one interest Foxworthy holds near and dear is Duke University Children's Hospital in Durham, NC, where he serves as Honorary Chairman of the Duke Children's Classic Golf Tournament. With his help, the hospital, which specializes in treating children with cancer, has raised over $3 million in the past three years.

The Atlanta, Georgia native remains true to his southern roots and resides with his wife and two daughters in Georgia.
