Gates McFadden
In addition to her tenure on Star Trek: The Next Generation, her television credits include a recurring role on Mad About You, a series regular on the URN series Marker, guest-starring appearances on HBO's Dream On, The Cosby Show, and The Wizard, along with the telefilm Crowned and Dangerous. During the last season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, she directed the highly rated episode Genesis.
McFadden has worked extensively in New York, Boston and London as an actress, director and choreographer. Her theatre acting credits include leads in the New York premiere productions of To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, Emerald City, How to Say Goodbye, Couch Tandem and Tommy Tune's production of Cloud Nine. She played Irene Molloy in The Matchmaker with Linda Hunt, the lead in the Los Angeles premiere of Viva Detroit, and appeared in the Los Angeles and Chicago productions of Sidney Blumenthal's This Town.
Over the last year, McFadden has been involved with Voices in the Dark, a new play by John Pielmeier (Agnes of God), directed by Christopher Ashley. She starred in the developmental production at the George Street Playhouse, and a New York engagement is pending. McFadden served as Jim Hanson's choreography director for the films Dreamchild and Labyrinth, was choreographer for the BAM Theatre Company under David Jones. and for two years served as artistic director of The New York Theatre Commotion.
McFadden attended Brandeis University, and she studied drama in Paris for two years with master teacher Jacques Lecoq, later serving as a teacher and director on the theatre arts faculty at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for over five years, was assistant professor at Brandeis University and was a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh. She has served on the faculties of several arts-in-education programs around the country. including The Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts and The Nashville Institute for the Arts.
