Nanette Fabray Forum

| by phil My favorite '50's era musical is 'The Bandwagon', starring Astaire and Charisse, but the must underrated performer has to be Nanette Fabray. I guess she was about 30 or so when this film was produced in 1953, and her maturity suits the character, wife and broadway writing partner of the Oscar Levant character. But in fact her lithe physical presence, so much more bouyant and spontaeous than Cyd's icy role, carries the show, I think. Plus, she actually sings very well and her jokes actually make us laugh. She may not be the dancer Cyd is, she has no need to apologise for her on-camera moves, and I am not shy to say Nanette's Bandwagon image conveyed a pert sexiness Charisse probably contracted out of her own role...
