Its a WW11 classic and written by Richard Hillary during his convalesence after his Spitfire crashed into the English Channel. Cinematographically it is brilliant on every level. Most poignantly for me was his between-the-lines unrequited love for fellow Oxford student and pilot Peter Pease. But above all was his humbling realization of the maxim:' Le sentiment d'etre tout et l'evidence de n'etre rien.' But, of course, he was so wrong. The evidence was that for both his age and Age he was an incredible person and that surely is everything? Comment on this... |

Minghella is doing the movie of Alexander McCall Smith's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" -- I think that Joan Armatrading would fit this role perfectly and want to suggest that she be starred as Mma Ramotswe, detective. Is there any way you know of to get an email through to Minghella's organization ? Are there any sites that permit you send emails to Minghella ? Please forward this one if you have any way to send it along. I understand that you say you do not know Anthony Minghella personally, but maybe you have a link where his email can be received. The camera is very friendly to Joan Armatrading (as evidenced in her recent concert tour DVD called "All the Way from America" -- plus you can tell that Joan herself is a friendly sort of person just by looking at her in the concert tour DVD.
