American Citizen? (Tue Sep 9, 2003 12:04am ET)report post

I didn't know Hopkins had become an American citizen. I have no disapproval of this but one question: Does this mean is he is no longer Sir Anthony Hopkins? I believe he was knighted some years back.

A discrace to Wales? Nonsense. We are very proud of him. Prehaps you ought not to judge him for becoming an American citizen, do you know the reasons why he made such a decision?

I think he made the decision because he has lived there for many years I think since 1975, and his success has been largely due to his involvement in that country.

Also as a Welshman, he is not part of the British Establishment, which regtrttably is anglocentric, and which takes a jaundice view of Wales it's culture and people. As a Welshman I feel this way, but I may be totally wrong in applying it to Mr Hopkins reasons for becoming a US citizen.

There are tons of Welshmen who have become American citizens over the centuries. Go to Pennsylvania and Tennessee. These states are particularly strong on Welsh heritage.

Anyway, isn't he a dual citizen?

Tony retains his British/Welsh citizenship-he simply added an American citizenship making it a duality. He didn't shame or disgrace anyone-he has done a lot for Wales including his million dollar donation to Snowdonia National Park for just one thing. Smile He continues to love and honor his homeland.

Hi!

Just thought I'd drop in and say what a fantastic actor and person I think Anthony Hopkins is. I've been following his career for a long time. He is the best there is out there now or at anytime. I also wanted to add that I hope he and Stella are extremely happy in their new life together!!
