I am not crazy about the new "90210" series because it's written more for the Britney Spears and Hannah Montana/text-messaging generation than for the viewers of the original series (who are older than 12).

And whose bright idea was it to cast Lori Loughlin in this? Talk about resurrecting the dead. Speaking of the walking-dead, Rob Estes is no prize either. Every time I see him I think of the lunatic psycho he played on one of my favorite shows and how he totally massacred its final season. (It's no wonder his wife divorced him after she was forced to come out of semi-retirement and be the breadwinner).

The only character(s) I like(d) was Brenda Walsh (Shannen) and Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth). For longtime viewers it was very exciting to see them back together on the same screen. But whomever is writing for this show isn't doing her job very well because Kelly and Brenda are not 15 anymore. These are grown women (pushing 40) and their characters never really grew up. There isn't any depth to them because they're just as superficial and shallow as ever. In fact, Brenda seemed more mature when she was a student at West Beverly. And Kelly Taylor is still the spoiled attention-seeking brat that she always was but it's no longer cute because here's a middle aged woman who never really grew up.

There is no drama or spark in this series. Nor is there any drama-queens (Brenda Walsh). There is no cute and innocent Brandon character or loveable loser Steve Standers. There isn't the smart chick Andrea or the lonely loner Dylan McKay. And worst of all, there aren't any catfights or man-stealing barracudas like the former Kelly Taylor or Valerie.

As a longtime viewer and fan of "90210" I would have much rather seen a series that focused either on the adult lives of the original members of the cast or more of a reunion special (they did one about 5 years ago). Tori Spelling was right to stay away from this turkey. It will not be the huge success that everyone is predicting because the writers are not doing their job. But I suppose that isn't uncommon for television in the '00s. July 14, 2008
