About Savage Streets - Special Edition

After nearly being rundown by a gang known as the Scars, Brenda (Linda Blair) and friends trash the leader's car. Gang leader, Jake, exacts his revenge by getting his cohorts to gang-rape her mute-deaf sister, Heather (in a gloriously nuanced role by Linnea Quigley). Armed with a crossbow and a bad attitude, Linda Blair sets out to avenge her mute-deaf sister while blazing a bloody, Bronson-inspired trail through 80's Los Angeles. Product Description

A group of high school girls decide to play a prank on a gang, after a small altercation. The gang called the "Scars" led by Jake(Robert Dryer) take the prank very personal. In retaliation they jump and rape one of the girls(Linnea Quigley) who happens to be a deaf mute. Her sister Brenda(Linda Blair) is ploting to take revenge, even though she doesn't know for sure who attacked her sister.

The Savage Streets is B movie material at its finest. Somewhat shaky acting and a plot that isn't very well thought out. The flaws can be picked out without even trying(So I can only imagine how many flaws will be uncovered by someone who tries). In fact, it sometimes come off funny when it's trying to be serious. But I just can't help loving this movie.

First things first, the chicks are 80's hot. You get a nice fill of T&A with chicks fighting naked in the showers. Chicks in they panties and Linda Blair in the bathtub. Man, I use to be so in love with this girl. I would have drank the water she bathed in.

The setting produces a nice gritty feel that fits well with the very name of the movie. The rape scene isn't as graphic, disturbing, or overdone as lets say, "I Spit On Your Grave"(some people very sensitive about this stuff may still be offended though). But it does the job in wanting the gang to get theirs. The dialogue is very funny at times with a bunch of memorable lines. The gore is ok at best but the death scenes are still fun.

Now is this 2 disk remaster worth getting? I will say yes. For one, the remaster is done very well with high definition anamorphic transfer 1.85:1. The picture is cleaned up. The grain is gone, it's not too dark, and the sound is clearer. Believe me, there is a huge difference in quality, I own the original grainy version. And I welcome this with open arms.

The second disk has some good interviews featuring Linda Blair and Linnea Quigley just to name a couple. Most of the interviews are pretty good. The actors even get in some detail talking about the rape scene. There are also trailers and a list of thank yous.

I highly recommend this set to Linda Blair fans especially. And anyone who gets into the rape and revenge theme. The movie isn't all gloom, chockfull of angst. It's a fun watch. Now take note, I'm not saying rape is fun to watch. Normally, I can't stand flicks like that but I dig this one though.

This first disk also has three commentaries.

Commentary with Danny Steinman
Commentary with Producer John Strong and Actors Robert Dryer and Johnny Venocur
Commentary with Cinematographer Stephen Posey and Actors Robert Dryer and Sal Landi

SAVAGE STREETS is a movie that is so bad in every possible way that it ends up being good! Blair's acting is non-exsistant and when she does attempt an emotional, heart-felt performance it comes across as hysterically funny. The plot leaves quite a bit to be desired. Overall, buy this ASAP! Also, Rebecca Norris looks just like Linda Blair! September 29, 2008

Savage Streets is a good, exciting film from the 80's. This DVD is excellent. There are a lot of extras on this 2 disc set including a new interview with Linda Blair who looks great. A great buy at this price! September 28, 2008

rating: 3 Quotepreeminent 80'sQuote
Definitely of major significance in Linda Blair's post-Exorcist career, this sleazy tale of high school revenge is a must for bad film fans everywhere.

This sympathetic tale tells the story of Brenda (Blair), a tough high school gal who spends her nights drinking peach brandy on the streets of LA with her equally tough friends. One night, they make the mistake of puttering with a gang called the Scars ("careful Brenda, these dudes look dangerous"), and before you know it, the Scars have raped and beaten Brenda's deaf, mute sister. Once Brenda learns the truth of what transpired, she vows revenge on those responsible.

This is the preeminent 80's high school movie - terrible music, awful acting, questionable violence and gratuitous nudity. August 4, 2008
