Walters tells about how her father's going bankrupt led her after college into a work situation which eventually through her making use of opportunities afforded put her at the top of the Media game. Hard work for many years, including the years on the Today show when she got up at four- thirty in the morning are the heart of the story. The family chapters of the memoir were the hardest for her to write. And it is especially her relation and guilt towards her learning- disabled sister which is still in her mind. Also her relation with her daughter is central to the story she tells. Walters is like Rose himself a master of communicating in a pleasant way, a master too of getting the best out of the one being spoken with. Towards the end of the show she speaks about not having anything as no one has everything, wishing she had had more children, but concluding with a sense of satisfaction at what she has done in her life. Charlie Rose echoes this sentiment.
This was an especially fine conversation between two friends, and two great masters of the art of communication. August 3, 2008
