About Home Alone
Now and forever a favorite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club) and directed by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realizes he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries the film. Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top. --Tom Keogh Amazon.com

The plot in "Home Alone" is clearly improbable, but that doesn't detract one whit from the appeal of impish (but sometimes adult far-beyond his years) Macaulay Culkin, bumbling Joe Pesci, and the rest of the cast. And, like Aesop's Fables, the film has a moral and a heartwarming tone. It's just not possible to dislike this film.
November 29, 2008If ppl actually dont like this movie. I just have to ask one question. What crawled up your butt? of course this movie is predictable and its much better when your a kid, but this movie like for most is a nostalgia movie. So for all you ppl who could see through the predictable crap and thought they were so smart for understanding that they were watching a movie full of holes...good for you!, but for most I didnt give a crap about the holes, its about having a laugh. So get over yourself and have a freakin laugh, its a christmas movie...Darn scrooges...
November 19, 2008This movie has always been a childhood favorite and I encourage everyone to buy Home Alone because the language is very mild and it's suitable for a family audience.
November 4, 2008This film has many lessons to be learned. I've used it to teach CCD classes, showing that people should not be judged by how they appear (the mean old man next door). Also that families should appreciate one another more, a lesson that is learned by Kevin. The interaction between the boy Kevin and the would-be burglars is over the top, but is much appreciated by kids twelve and under. The good guys win, and the bad guys go to jail. When he is most afraid, Kevin seeks sanctuary in the house of God, the place of ultimate safety. The persistance of Kevin's mother in her attempts to return home to her son shows the depth of a mother's love. She is rescued by the kindness of strangers who show the true spirit of Christmas in sharing their ride with her.
October 20, 2008 | | One of the best comedys of 1990 and one of the funniest films from my childhood | |
Home Alone was one of the funniest film released in 1990 and is still a Christmas classic to me , tweleve years later. Macaualy Culkin became a star with this film and Joe Pesci showed more acting talent om this film. The ending in the film is one of the funniest and when I have kids I'll show them this treasured classic.
