About My Sassy Girl

Loosely based on the 2001 Korean romantic comedy of the same name, My Sassy Girl follows a young couple that was brought together by unusual circumstances. Charlie (Jesse Bradford, Flags of Our Fathers) finds Jordan (Elisha Cuthbert, 24) drunk and passed out in a subway station. Worried that she'll be harmed, he makes sure she gets home safely. The two have nothing in common. He has a life plan and a cautious approach; she lives moment to moment and literally throws caution to the wind. Like The Lake House--a remake of the Korean movie Siworae--the plot of My Sassy Girl has been changed enough that it's its own film. While not nearly as charming as the film on which it's based, it has its winning moments--especially in the final third of the film when it makes sense why this unlikely pair should be together. As Jordan notes, "We have to stay alive, because we have to see how the story ends." Bradford and Cuthbert lend charm and likability to their roles. While the plot often asks us to believe in them when they're placed in situations that are completely unbelievable, the actors make us root for them. There is a surprise tear-jerking ending that is highly contrived. Still, you may want to have a tissue or two on hand. --Jae-Ha Kim Amazon.com

I thought from the trailer it would not be that bad, but after watching the korean version, it did not even come near it. The acting wasn't that bad, but I guess i do not like remakes. But this just my opinion anyway. October 3, 2008

Would you be attracted to a seemingly bi-polar, erratic and extremely domineering young woman (Jordan) you met on a subway just as she was passing out in a drunken stupor? Well you might if she looked like Elisha Cuthbert. That's just what happened for conservative and highly motivated Charlie (Jesse Bradford) and from that moment on he would forever divide his life between the time before he met her and the time after.

The '07 American remake of the Korean film of the same name, `My Sassy Girl' is an entertaining though inebriated love story that I like to refer to as `Serendipity' with alcohol. For the majority of the film the viewer will most likely find themselves in a state of confusion, yet fully intrigued and engaged in to film. You will wonder more than once exactly where the storyline is heading, so much so that the fate of the film depended on a really good ending to weave all the disparate, unanswered aspects of the tale into an acceptable conclusion. Fortunately, the ending does exactly that providing the audience with not only understanding but a bit of unexpected depth. Well worth the time and effort I would say. October 2, 2008

I didnt know what to expect. I didnt know there was a korean version.
I didnt know I would want to see it again as soon as it ended, because i did, I really enjoyed this movie and it just kept me smiling and
laughing and very entertaining with interesting music that fit it
wonderfully.
If you have to compare this to other movies in its category then its a
real winner. September 22, 2008

My Sassy Girl just didn't click well with me. The story portrays a relationship between a well-grounded young man, Charlie (played by Jesse Bradford) who worked his way through NYU to get his dream job as a top manager at a lawn mower manufacturer, and a psychotic rich girl, Jordan (played by Elisha Cuthbert) who lives on the Upper East Side and drinks suicidal amounts of alcohol. Now the way that this story is played out gives it an extreme fictional feel, almost to the point where you could have just had a cartoon characters instead of real people. I understand that the writer(s) and director did it this way on purpose, exaggerating his family as almost a satire Midwestern American family (or in the case of the girl and her family, pompously rich alcoholics with strict father). Unfortunately it wasn't delivered well. The acting was so-so and after a while, the girl gets on your nerves with her chaotic behavior and less than mental personality.

At first I thought, where is this story going?, but with time I kind of figured out the ending and wanted desperately for it to get there. I think any other viewer would be able to figure it out early on as well. The story line does fall into place in the end, and the reasons why Jordan is a mess and spends the entire film pushing Charlie away is revealed. The couple may or may not end up together in the end (I will let you find out if you like).

All in all, in my opinion the acting was poor, the crazy effects used throughout the movie made it less impressive, and the storyline was predictable. I give it a two because I sat through the entire thing. I give ones mostly when I turn the movie off half way through. September 19, 2008

I've read review after review comparing it to the original, well, I haven't seen the original, so those reviews mean nothing to me.

What I can say is that we almost turned the movie off, finding it quirky and weird, not seeming to make sense in the beginning.

By the end we were touched, the characters and the story brought us to tears! I am going back to watch it again...and believe me...I don't do that with many romantic comedies.

Well acted, well done. Pick it up, watch it and love it! September 8, 2008
