Heavy Petting (2007)

When Charlie (Brendan Hines) meets Daphne (Malin Akerman), the girl of his dreams, he never expects he’ll have to battle past her pet dog "Babydoll" to win her heart. Just when it seems he can’t beat the beast, and all is lost, something unexpected happens. Charlie begins to fall in love with the dog himself, realizing he never really needed a girlfriend in the first place. Now, in order to keep hanging out with "man’s best friend," Charlie must scramble to keep his relationship with Daphne going at all costs, or risk losing them both.

The dog is great!

Charlie is looking for a relationship in this movie and meets a young woman named, Daphne. He decides that he'd like to pursue her and things are going pretty good until she brings a cute dog home named, Babydoll.
Now, the problem is, Charlie is not a dog lover and both he and the dog know it. Just how is Charlie going to pull off acting like one for his new lady.
As the story moves along, the adorable dog weaves her way into the very heart of Charlie and he begins to enjoy being with the dog more than the lady. Now he is in big troule because without one, he cannot have the other.
This movie was somewhat entertaining but not one that I personally would sit through again. I liked Charlie but my favorite was Babydoll who I am sure could woo anyone to her side with the blink of her adorable eyes.
But to me the story lags a bit and the main highlights were the antics between the man and dog. So, if you like a movie where the dog wins the heart of man, this one is for you. November 18, 2008

If you love dogs...

you'll fall hard for "Babydoll". She basically stole the show from this, otherwise, silly little, low-budget, romantic comedy.

Charlie (Brendan Hines) declares early in the movie, his disdain for dogs, when he steps in a pile of pooh. His best friend and roommate, played by Kevin Sussman echo's his dislike for the furry beasts. Making fun of anyone with dogs becomes a running joke between them.

In steps dog-less, Daphne (Malin Akerman). Charlie falls head-over-heels and thinks it's pretty safe, because her fur friend is on the mantle in an urn---the best place for them, in his opinion.

When things are picking up steam, in walks Daphne with Babydoll. Charlie is initially repulsed with the toilet-drinking, then kissy-face waste of fur. Babydoll isn't too fond of Charlie in the beginning, either.

The unthinkable unfolds. Charlie begins to understand the meaning of "man's best friend" and scurries in a panic when he thinks that he and Daphne's relationship is going sour, because he now has fallen for Babydoll, too, and can't face the thought of never seeing her again.

In the, Interview with the Dog Trainer, we learn that Babydoll was a rescue. She was chosen more for her unusual looks and markings than personality, but they soon learned that there was more to BD than the exterior. She's moved on to quite a successful animal career.

The movie might not be the best, but Babydoll saved the day and her back-story alone makes this movie fun. I know I fell in love with BD, too. September 19, 2008

Girl+Dog+Boy=Love

A new kind of love triangle hits the singles market?
Buying a chew toy to get in good with the girl's dog?
Man has had dog's in the teepee for 25000 years,
but it may be the women who tamed them first?
There has to be some philosophy for this, because
it begs logic.
The nice guy is blue and goes to a party at which he meets a girl
who is lonely like him. Luck has it and they hit it off.
But she gets a dog and a tail spin sets in:
he doesn't really dig dogs.
Even worse he finds out he really does like this dog....
Some coffee twists later there is a happy ending. July 12, 2008
