New Lesbian Shorts
Amos Lassen
"Fun in Girls' Shorts" (Strand Releasing) is a collection of new Lesbian shorts from Frameline and several of them are award winners. Five of the films are American, one is British and there is one from Switzerland and they provide a diverse look at Lesbian life.
"Hung" is unquestionably my favorite film as it is so tongue in cheek. A magic potent allows five girls to be hung for one day. It is obvious what the aim of the day is but it is not easy for the girls to get used to that little something extra.
"Members Only" is a look at a girl who just can't seem to get a date and Amy wonders if she is no longer appealing or is it because she is just not a member?
"Hi Maya" is the Swiss film that shows two women starting over on an old romance after a casual meeting in a beauty salon.
"Outside" is a futuristic film about loneliness. A young woman who is isolated in a steel bunker in the world of tomorrow faces her fears when she makes contact with an outsider.
"Airplanes" is about two young girls who meet and hook up at a carnival but as the day draws to a close their friendship is threatened.
The British film, "Can You Take It?" is seen through the eyes of a teenaged girl as she waits in a railroad station and watches a group of strangers who are detained.
Taken collectively, "Fun in Girls' Shorts" is a wonderful look at Lesbian life.
