Shipping from Amazon was lightening fast. DVD's arrived in great shape. Fun to watch again. It's nice to be able to backtrack and see pieces of this great program at my own pace. It's also nice to be able to once again listen and even jot down "Hanks" cutting quips, just so I can use them if the need ever arises. This show is very quirky and fun. It's definately for adults only but that's what I like about it. The writing is great and the stories are fabulous. David Duchovny is perfect for this part; as I understand it he's living it in real life.

"Californication" is a new Showtime series that chronicles the life of struggling writer Hank Moody (David Duchovney) and his plight to get back together with his ex girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone), with which they have a daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin). If you think this sounds like another sap series that we seem to be overwhelmed with in this day in age, you are wrong. There is plenty of sex, drugs, alcohol and humor to dilute the underlying plot to attract viewers and keep you watching. It's not unreasonable to finish this entire series in one sitting.

Hank's problems begin when his best selling novel is turned into a mainstream Hollywood hit movie, which he feels ruined his work. Ever since he moved to L.A. from The Big Apple he comes down with a severe case of writers block. He takes a job as a blogger but hates the idea of blogging instead of creating a meaningful piece of literature. His hate for this blog is amplified once he finds out that his new boss is Bill (Damien Young), the man that Karen left him for. To make matters worse, Hank unknowingly has sex with Bill's 16-year-old daughter Mia (Madeline Zima), which ultimately becomes the inspiration for his newest novel, which is then used as blackmail against Hank after Mia steals the book and tries to get it published under her name. Throughout the series we see that Hank is still very much in love with Karen, even with his many interesting sexual escapades, and we get a sense that she stills loves Hank as well. This sets up for a very interesting look into Hank's many problems as he searches for love and self-discovery throughout the episodes.

"Californication" is one of the most hilarious shows on TV this year. There are many funny situations that lighten Hank's goal of reuniting his family. The humor ranges from awkward situations to hilarious three way sex scenes with entertaining climaxes. I believe I laughed so hard that I tore a muscle in my stomach. You will laugh, as well as sympathize with Hank's many problems, the whole way through this series... It's a guarantee. If I can get my mother to like this show, you will too. October 2, 2008

Good God!!! I wonder if David Duchovny has gotten registered on the AIMDB Database (Adult Internet Movie Database) Good Lord! I love this show! What would Agent Mulley say?

Leave no doubt in your mind, there's lots and lots and lots of fornication in this show. But here's the kicker! The storyline is very fascinating and interesting. I love all the story arcs. I do notice that almost every storyline has something to do with fornication, or at least between a married couple. In any event here are my favorite characters and situations. Some spoilers below.

SPOILER ALERT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dani, the agent's assistant, played by Rachel Miner (NOT Elisha Cuthbert): What words to describe this delectable creature...yummy! You gotta love a series that can turn every situation into a "70's porn scenario." Dani plays a role in many of these situations. I love how she worms here way into the sexual lives of just about every major character. Gotta love her acting too. She's very beautiful and sexy and fun to watch get it on.

Loved the last show of season 1. Remember the ménage a twois with the bald agent, David and the strange female, and the little surprise at the end, when David says: "I knew there was a reason why I didn't call her back." The look on the bald agent's face, when his face is dripping, is worth the price of the DVD set. Actually more than the cost of the DVD set. Priceless!!!

There's been a lot of trash talk about the daughter, Becca Moody, played by Madeleine Martin on the IMDB boards, and let me tell you, I think that's a little bit over the top. I do think she has an unusual look and her singing leaves a lot to be desired, but she's a 14 or 15 year old singing classic rock songs. What do you want? Obviously, she's there to be the cute daughter. Her father obviously loves her.

I'm looking forward to the season 2 release of this show. I don't have Showtime and I don't make a habit of watching on my computer. Maybe I'll figure out a way to download and watch on my television. We'll see.

Two hard thumbs way up!!!

Great show!!!

MC White says check it out!!!

Interesting soap operaish TV series, interesting characters who get under your skin the more you watch it. Actually should have given it four stars, but the damned edit won't let me change that. September 20, 2008

Ok. I was a little reluctant to watch this show... to begin with the explicit name -which I still don't like much- troubled me, as well as the misleading idea of it being too sexed up for its own good.
I took a deep breath, gave it a chance and was quite pleased. Duchovny -probably in his best role since the world met him as Agent Fox Mulder- gets to bright as troubled Hank Moody, a blocked writer who is fully aware he has lost track of his own life, immersing himself in a series of situations from which it will be quite difficult to reemerge. The key in here is that no matter what kind of immoral behaviour Hank has -which, you get it, he obviously has-, you get the feeling he is, in his core, a good man. An authentic guy who has no qualms in admitting his own decline...But will he be able to find the right path again?? Does such thing really exists?? Will he be willing to change his erratic ways? Will his willingness suffice?
Season 1 ended with the possibility of a new beginning, a second chance...but whether it will work, we will have to wait for season 2. I know I am. September 19, 2008
