When the gold goes missing, the government blames Shilov for theft, when in fact a group of wiley bandits have managed to steal it out from under him. Now, the unfortunate Shilov must ingratiate himself into the world of these bandits and surreptitiously take the gold back before the train arrives in Moscow. This involving, action-packed Western is the first film directed by the acclaimed Nikita Mikhalkov.
