Like Elizabeth from Ill. I've been waiting for this film to go to DVD since they were created. I too have a VHS copy that was wearing out. According to a book titled simply, The Rat Pack, Frank gave this picture his blessing because his daughter Tina was Executive Producer. However, he thought that the story would gloss over his "bad moments" and was in a rage when he viewed the finished film and saw that his drinking, womanizing, and temper tantrums were on full display. In fairness, the movie also shows the man as the magnificent entertainer he always was. The cast is fine. Phillip Casnoff, a veteran broadway performer steps into Sinatra's tux real well, although he's clearly a lot more handsome and well built the the real thing ever was. At the same time, although Gina Gerson did great as first wife Nancy, I always thought she would have been better as Ava Gardner. The rest of the supporting cast is great also such as James F. Kelly who's made a career playing Jack and Bobby Kennedy(he's JFK in this one) And the legendary Rod Stieger who is chilling as Sam Giancana. Don't miss Las Vegas fixture Danny Gans in a couple of brief scenes as Dean Martin. For a TV flick the costuming and cinematography are excellent. And above all, the incomparable recordings from the Chairman of the board are on display. July 18, 2008

Francis Albert Sinatra.... must surely rank as not only one of the greatest singers of the 20th century but also one of the premier performers across theatre/cabaret, stage and screen. Philip Casnoff has been perfectly cast, particularly as the young Frankie. I also loved Marcia Gay Harden's portrayal of the gorgeous Ava Gardner. Casnoff has been able to showcase Frank's remarkable talents aided by some wonderful musical voiceover by Tom Burlinson standing in for a young Sinatra. A wonderful Mini-series which will have a very special place in my DVD collection. July 4, 2008

"Sinatra" was an excellent movie. The singers who dubbed the voice were fabulous and sounded like Sinatra. The acting, well Philip Casnoff, who plays Frank Sinatra is fabulous - just perfect, and I can't believe he didn't win an Emmy! That shows how much the voters know. Gina Gershon as Nancy Sinatra, Olympia Dukakis as Dolly Sinatra, Frank's, mother, Marcia Gay Harden as Ava Gardner and Rod Steiger as Sam Giancana -- I mean it's just one great thing about this movie after the other. I think Frank would've liked this movie about his life. It's not a gossipy, piece of trash, but what seemed like a good, honest depiction of Frank Sinatra, from a young child through all his marriages and affairs, Frank the crooner, Frank the actor and Oscar winner, the Vegas entertainer along with his Rat Pack - a fabulous movie!

Every Sinatra fan should see this. I'm sure if it wasn't just right, and had put her father in a bad light, Tina Sinatra wouldn't have produced it.

I have to be honest that when I was younger, I never really liked Sinatra that much, but the older I get, I love his singing, acting, movies & CD's and probably have just about all of them. He has become, along with Dean Martin, two of my top favorites of all time. They don't have entetainers like these as well as Sammy Davis, Jr. anymore, unfortunately. This generation is missing out of watching & listening to perfection.

Rent it! Buy it! See it! A 4-5 star movie review!!!! June 24, 2008

I am admitted full fledged Frank Sinatra fanatic, growing up as a second generation Italian-American in New Jersey what choice did I have? I have read numerous biographies on the man so I would consider myself quite knowledgeable with regards to the life, music and career of the greatest entertainer of the 20th century.
The story begins with Frank as a boy (9) and ends with his Madison Square concert in 1974 titled (The Main Event). This depiction of the life of Sinatra left me a little cold for one reason, he never appears to be truly happy and that being said my only other criticism would be the actor who portrayed him. Not once during the movie did I ever think this is Frank, not once. This man captured nothing and I mean nothing of Frank's mannerisms, Mr. Philip Casnoff was a total bust.
If you can get past the let down Mr. Casnoff brings to the table then you may find the story entertaining and if you're just a casual fan then you will learn something about Mr. S that you may not have known. If you really want to know about Frank read Tina's and Nancy's books on their father, they are absolutely fantastic. You get a ring side seat in the Sinatra family, these books I highly recommend.
