Great movie. My husband has been looking for this movie, and was happy when I found it. Thanks again, Amazon! June 29, 2008

As the third (fourth, if you include 13th Warrior) attempt to movie-ize Beowulf, I was hoping for a heroic interpretation of the book. Why not let the ancient hero be a hero? They let Ironman be a hero, and that was a good movie. This one tanks for basically the following reasons: 1) absolutely no interest on the part of the scriptwriters in being faithful to the spirit of the book 2) yet another de-herofied Beowulf, by making him into a liar and a fake--I'll spare those of you who are thinking of renting this turd the details 3) third rate "gumby" computer animation. Shrek was better . . . And WAY more entertaining. If you're supposed to read Beowulf for one of your Lit classes and are thinking of watching this movie instead, spare yourself: Your professor will probably make a laughing stock out of you. Pity; The cover held so much promise. June 28, 2008

I had high hopes for this movie.

Unfortunately, the CGI just wasn't up to it; it was almost good enough but not quite. And while I loved the bits that stuck true to the original - most of the beginning - the "plot twist" which took the movie away from the original epic poem was kind of depressing. If it were a normal movie taking place in Viking society with characters named other names and they ended it this way, that would be great; but once again someone had to go take a perfectly good classic and use the "brand name" to sell a story that bore only loose relation to the original tale. See the most recent "King Arthur" for another one of these unnecessary alterations. June 27, 2008

How romantic. When I read the book, I thought Beowulf was just some hero who slayed a troll, a hag and a dragon. The movie brings out the romantic side of Beowulf. Beowulf doing battle in the nude. Beowulf getting passionate with a succubus. Beowulf having heart-rending marital problems with the queen and finding true love with a blond cutie. It puts you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that the original book failed to achieve. June 26, 2008

I was surprised to see the movie was animated. I had not known prior to purchasing it (guess I didn't pay enough attention). The animation was absolutely wonderful. I recommend the movie on that fact alone.

The story is based on an old, old epic of British literature. It's about a hero who slays monsters. Pretty basic stuff, but if you've read Beowulf you can't help but check this movie out. If you haven't read Beowulf, be warned -- it is a very difficult read due to the old English language it is written in / translated into.

I didn't think it was an award winning movie by far, but I thought it was fun to watch. Warning: NOT for the children! June 24, 2008
