The Last Detective - Series 4 (2006)

Yet another great Detective.

Peter Davison is superb, in this highly unusual series.

The supporting cast, too, are all highly enjoyable and convincing. The fact that Davison the hard working, plodding but, in the end brilliant detective, is such a wuss regarding his estranged wife, was brilliant in its conception. It is always good to have heroes who have Achilles heels!

This series is brilliant and extremely well directed. Everyone, who enjoys a good detective yarn and a genuine smile, should see it. June 29, 2008

Quite good, really...

I don't have any particular reason to give only 4 stars, not 5, other than general principles, I guess. Liking All Creatures (and having seen Peter Davison in several other series, it's good to see him again in something fresh) and also liking Agatha Christie (Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, the interplay between Poirot and Hastings, etc.), this series (I have and have watched the previous three) is good from at least two perspectives from the getgo. The Last Detective - Series 4

Excellent follow-up to previous 3 series. The actors have come to really "own" the roles. The story lines are excellent with a good mixture of mystery, humor and toughness. June 15, 2008

Boy! What a let down! Expect to see nudity

People may knock the violence on American television but they have NEVER put full frontal nudity on any cop show like these Writers did on a family viewing series! I tossed the disk. You couldn't watch this with family and friends. (Is this what the British people accept now?) I have reasessed the actors in this series as well, doing something so out of line with what I've come to expect from British Detective stories. It's so low-character and disgusting. And the bedroom language..."Mounting!" Give me a break! Total yuk! They could do sooo much better with this Series. I'm with the other Reviewers... the Writers make no sense with alot of unanswered questions brought about from the way they set up the Series. If it wasn't for the lead Actor, this Series probably would die away quickly. I will not buy any more of the Series. I wanted to see a good mystery in the ilk of Morse and instead the Writers spent too much time with Dangerous and his wife and Mod instead of creating the mystery. And the two detectives in the office are made unbelievable by the Writers as well. I'm gonna miss "Dangerous" Davie...somebody PLEASE persuade the cast to get NEW Writers and save the Series!
