Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? (2007)

For the most part, I enjoy Tyler Perry movies. When they are absent of Medea, his signature character, you often times find yourself wanting of something else because she is the center of his as well as the fictional characters' world. Here we have a group of eight friends (four couples) who meet every year for a get together in a cabin to have all their dirty laundry air out.

Some if it is a little too far fetched to be believed, but I guess anything and everything can happen in this day and age. Sheila actually endures the humiliation of having her pig of a husband not just have her thrown off the plane because she's too fat to fit in the seats, but brings his lover with him in her place only to have her be in complete denial why she is even in attendence at the cabin. One lush of a wife is screaming at her husband that the boughts of VD are not due to his infidelity but hers. Another couple is arguing about having children or not, about having sex or lack of, what the kids are doing with his baby's mama, etc. Funny how when you have a bunch of people cooped up in a house for a long time everything just comes out, and there is little alcohol mixed in save for the one with the obvious problem.

There is the typical rather predicable message of spirituality and resolving the obvious problems here, nothing will come as a major surprise. Tyler Perry has often times repeated the same messages over and over, but then again they bare repeating. July 22, 2008

I know now why I got married!!!!

This movie was wonderful and had everything...serious, funny, and very realistic. Just when you thought you knew what was going to happen to these couples...puff...something real happened. When my husband and I went to see this movie we had just argued...about...can't even remember. When we walked out of the movie we were holding hands. We remembered that we had forgotten to listen to each other...that we were taking each other for granted. Hat's off Tyler Perry! Gotta go see the other Tyler Perry movies now! July 18, 2008

This was only my third movie I'd seen of Tylers (behind Diary Of A Mad Black Woman and Daddy's Little Girls) but I'd heard so many positive reviews about this, that I bought it and I'm so glad I did. I truly enjoyed it.
It is a story blending four married couples who each have their problems. They go away on a couples weekend in the mountains and various senarios take place. It was good to see a plus-sized character in here (Jill Scott who played Sheila), but the verbal and emotional abuse she took from her husband was extreme. He was an outright pig of a man (although he's cute and played very well by Richard T Jones) who bought to this couples weekend, his 'bit on the side'. During the course of a dinner one night, accusations go flying about each of the couples relationships or infidelities etc and it gets pretty ugly. There are break ups and make ups and it is done really well. I thought one of the best actors in this movie was actually Janet Jackson. I thought she was very very good in here and I thought Jill Scott was only average. She isn't the best of actresses, yet she did make us really feel for her and her issues with her husband and her weight.
Yes the movie is a little long, but it is very enjoyable and overall it's well acted out and interesting and a new favourite of mine. I really loved this and glad I bought my own copy so I can re-watch it every now and then. It's great. July 12, 2008

Best Tyler Perry Movie

This is the best movie Tyler Perry ever made. Definitely add this one to your collection July 9, 2008
